What is "usual service" ?

I'm a "mature student" in University, interested in the ABM role after I get this silly piece of paper I'm paying lots of money for. The Careers Website says usual service of 9 years. Is this now the minimum commission length?

Standard short service commission was 6 years for non aircrew types when I went through Cranditz. However some lads had strange lengths of commission, one I am sure had 8 years for non aircrew branch. WSO's seemed to get 9 years, pilots 12 or 16 years.

When I was recruiting, there was talk of the SSC being raised from 6 to 9 years. Have a chat with your AFCO who should give you the correct gen.
