Hi peeps,

Maybe a bone question but I don't know, so here it is:

Whats the name of the RAF's version of the Army's Service Funds Accounts Qual???

If I transfered over would this be a good asset to you guys/gals?

Many thanks

It would depend what computer system you were trained on I suppose. I'm not an accounts man myself, in fact I have avoided it like the plague, but in a former life I used to send people on the course. It used to be Q-Sec-NP (Non-Public) then became Q-Sec-SFA, and I'm not sure what it is called now. The course is still run at Southwick Park though.

I'm sure an accounts geek will be along to give the latest gen.

The system we use is SAGE, however unless you are a snco cashier (or the JNCO SFAS clk) in a RAF ran support unit overseas, it is unlikely you would be using SAGE as the majority of SFAS inputs are done by civilians. Our accounts qualifications are nothing like the Armys i.e. we don't get a recognised qual like CEMA for Public accounts and only get a week's trg on Non-public. Any formal quals we want we have to apply for ourselves through learning credits/personal expense unless we can prove its essential for our current job.

Having served with an army SSgt SFAS clk, I was amazed at the time to see it was manual double entry booking keeping :PDT_Xtremez_34: (but it was on Ops so I hope it's different at your other units).

Hope this helps -RC

Hi and thanks to the post much appreciated.

Well were were being taught SFA as a two week intence course in manual double entry book keeping cse and then in the units it was/is paxton plus etc... especially as regimental accountant. Now the others are only taught
basic book keeping!!!

I was just wondering if it would be a good thing to have if transfering from army shiney to raf shiney especially if I wait out for the sgt's promotion board which I have a good feeling about but I wont believe it till I see it!

In addition to the above drivel, If I transfered does anyone know if I would keep my current rank, especially if you as a trade are so undermaned?

Answers on a postcard pse...

PP further to my comments, if you seriously do have a look in at your third, I wouldn't even consider transferring, there is no guarantee you would keep your rank (recruiters please feel free to correct me) and the hardest rank to get to in our trade is that of FS (SSgt) and even more relevant we do not have a role equivalent to Regt Acct, you may have the quals but it be unlikely you would use your specialisation within the RAF, as clerks you would be expected to do any role as required within the trade. This could be P1 (discip), an MCTC tour, Gen Office with lovely JPA, VIP, education, Sqn Clk, Trg School (not necessarily for accts poss as a discip), the list is very long!!
