Hi all.

A mate of mine has been told that his squadron will be disbanding in the winter when it comes back from Ops.
There are rumours that the one I'm on will do too not long after.

I guess there are a few people that have experienced that by now and was wondering what happens in the build up to it. Do you get any choice as to where you go next or do you just wait to see something in your work flow on JPA.

Cheers,

PF

I would be proactive and make sure your preferences are correct on jpa, make sure to waive your 90 days and make sure you don't have no move selected.

If you have specific wishes about what happens to you next then get pro-active early...start buttering up your deskie, make sure your choices of posting on JPA are relevant and know what you both want and importantly what you don't want...If you leave it to luck you tend not to have any!

When 42/NLF closed at STM it was bedlam towards the end...the clever people did as above and sat back to watch the rest scratch around for what was left which wasn't much I can testify!

I've had the misfortune to experience this twice! If it happens, then every single one of you will be asked as to what you want to do next, and the career Managers will work from that to assign people away as and when vacancies come up. Be flexible and realistic (if necessary volunteer to do an OOA in a non-trade related role), and you will have a very good chance of getting the job that you want - I did (twice) and so did around 95% of those affected.

Thanks for the replies.

I completely agree. I've always been pro active with my career and go after things rather than waiting for them to come to me.

Problem is, I've only just got here and found out it's due to disband so feel a bit awkward seeking pastures new already.

It's interesting to know that the careers managers will ask us where we would like to go as I thought that was just a rumour and wouldnt happen.

Thanks again.

We've been told to get our JPA sorted, I've already approached Manning as I really can't be arsed with being bundled down to Marhell and learning an airframe which is dieing on its arse. I would much prefer something new like JSF or RJ.

If you're looking to stay in Scotland then it could be worth asking your deskie to augment you to 6 or 1 at Leuchars for a couple of years until the buffoon moves up there?

Rumour control says that before all the tonka sqns go, they'll move the main typhoons up, then the remainder of 6 and 1.

From what I've heard from manning bods, Lossie is critically short of manpower. So if you're Tonka Q'd you'll end up staying there (15 maybe?), forever. I know of guys trying to get posted out of Lossie and they have been told "no chance of a move, for at least a year. They can't get enough guys in to replace those PVR'ing."

But Tonka is not going out of service for many many years.

I don't think they have even asked for volunteers for JSF yet, so no chance of a JSF slot. Just look at how long its taking to get on Voyager, If I recall they were only 2 fairy vacancies advertised this year.

Reasonable number of people went over last year....

As Downsizer correctly states, folk have already gone over. I wouldn't mind doing a 3yr tour in the States, much better than Marhell and much better than Tonka. I've seven years left, I either do something different or I'm slinging my PVR in the moment my HNC is done.
