Hi Guys,

I'm new on here so firstly hello to all of you. I am thinking of joining the RauxAF as a gunner so have a question for you folks.

I was originally thinking of joining the RMR but due to work restraints I can't make the weekly drill nights regularly enough (only once a month). I was looking for an alternative and the only one I could come up with (that doesn't have weekly drills) is 3 sqn TPW @ Henlow (I live in Luton, Beds).

I am interested in 3 sqn TPW but would really prefer a more infantry based unit such as RauxAF Regiment gunners. I've been on the RAF reserves site and the nearest units that have gunner reg's are as follows (distance and time according to Google map) :-

606 (Chiltern) Squadron = 59.6 Miles / 70 mins
504 (County of Nottingham) Squadron = 68.2 Miles / 89 mins
2623 (East Anglian) Squadron = 74.5 Miles / 107 mins
501 (County of Gloucester) Squadron = 83.2 Miles / 100 mins (Say on their site recruit within 100 miles so would be fine)
2620 (County of Norfolk) Squadron = 83.3 Miles / 130 mins (too long really)

I know the obvious choice from the list above is to apply to 606 Squadron but I wanted to get peoples opinions on the different sqn's and which they feel is the best to join? I don't want to start a slagging match off (I'm sure they are all good) just wondered if you had the choice (or perhaps are members of one of the above units) which would you go for?

Many thanks in advance guys.
Stu.

p.s. - I posted the same question in the Rock apes section and on the ARRSE boards.

600 Sqn (Northolt) also have a few Regiment types. You could talk to someone there.

I did look at that squadron on the RAF reserves site but when I looked at the job opportunities page it didn't list Gunner, so I just assumed they didn't have a regiment there?

Should I just call them and ask? They're certainly the closest.

Thanks.

Cheers for the links, the RAF Regiment one is good but unfortunately the Rockape one doesn't work?

Cheers guys, think I'm going to give 606 a shout as they're the closest and not heard anything bad about them.
