Hi

Posted this here as I can't make sense of the insurance-speak on my documents! I picked up a stonechip in my windscreen. My policy says I can get it fixed but an excess of £70 applies. Will I lose my no claims discount though, as I'm claiming for the screen!?

You'll need to check with the company, however, my policy sounds similar - £60 or 70 for a windscreen but i won't lose my no claims. Give them a ring!

As a stone chip is unavoidable your policy should give the access on your account. If you do not take this you will have to pay for the full price of replacement. Depending on the size and location some independant companies can repair the damage, often seen in large shopping complexes plying their trade....

In my experience if you get it repaired it costs nowt but if you get the screen replaced it`ll cost you the glass excess but not affect your no claims.
Regards
Rob

^^ Yep, RadRob is right.

I recently had a stone chip in my windscreen, my insurance company charge about 80 quid excess for replacement screen, but nothing for repairs. Niether of these affects your no claims.

I had a franchise guy fix mine in a homebase car park while I was shopping, they then bill the insurance company, you just have to give the bloke your company name and policy number.

You often see these guys with a big gazebo type thing set up in car parks at weekends, but they also do home visits.

Concur with RR and Yoss. If they can repair it, it will cost you nowt (if fully comp). You may however see it appear on policy renewal as a 'claim' but it wont affect your NCD or result in a policy price increase. The excess only applies to replacement.

All my fully comp insurances have had Autoglass repairs for stone chips free, as has been said the excess is only payable for windscreen replacement. Also I remember not losing any NCD or increase in my policy from replacing a windscreen as I think they treat it differently to accident repairs. It is like all things insurance it is all in the small print of your particular policy.

Off Topic , slightly, I just found out that our pet insurance now has an excess payable of £70, so anything less than that is not worth claiming, robbing gits the lot of them.

I had a stone chip repaired tother week...it doesn't get rid of the chip perfectly like it would suggest on the telly adverts...Mine was still clearly visible but a lot stronger and less likely to crack further when it gets chilly...

We had a SEngO noce who asked what the best thing was to remove marks form the windscreen - the reply forone of the lads in the crew roon was scotchbright - which he used and duly scratched his window!!!:PDT_Xtremez_18: :PDT_Xtremez_42: :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Had it done twice, (different cars) - £60 excess each time and no loss of NCB.

Mind you, the last time I had it done, I only had the new windscreen in for 2 days before I got another feckin' chip!!

Wonky Tonka, I think you need to change your insurance, you should not be paying out any excess for stone chip repairs, let alone that amount.

Added: Unless you meant that the windscreen was replaced because of the stone chips.

Same here, two different cars, I payed for the repair and kept my NCB. One cracked in the same place and I had to have the screen replaced, I payed the excess, but kept my NCB.

Worked with a liney at Brawdy who tried to clean dead flies off his windscreen with M.E.K. How we laughed when it went opaque :PDT_Xtremez_31:

Yeah, sorry if it wasn't clear in my original post.

Both times, the chips were so bad the screen had to be cx'd
