Wireless networking

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Yes.

What do you want to gain from the network? I.E. File sharing, print sharing, etc, etc?

Just speak to her dude, it's quicker and easier ! :PDT_Xtremez_30:

I downloaded a little program called Network magic. It's shareware, so you can try it before you buy it. Failing that something like wireshark will help you find the other lappy too.
I would think you'd be better off making hers the master as it's running Vista.

she'll have to share more htan her public folders though. SBjnr and I have a similar setup using the sky router

Filesharing basically. Hers has a much bigger hard drive than mine and it'd probably be a good idea to store files such as finance stuff on hers so that I can access them. I'm not even sure that we'd actually use a network, I'm just curious (but not in a sexual way!!)

Make sure both PC's are in the same workgroup...

Right click on my computer and goto settings then click on the, "Computer name" tab.

Call the workgroup anything you like as long as both PCs have the same name.

Then right click on a folder that you want to share and select the sharing option, there you select sharing and password options.

I can't do any screen shots as I'm using the girlfriends laptop and it's in German!

It is a fairly straight forward thing to do.

Hope this helps.

Basically what shugster said, except make sure your network is secured before you go sharing your finances with anyone in your wireless range....

Have a look in your modems properties too, I have set my network to a maximum of two machine's by locking the IP addresses down to a specific machine.
