Sorry MM only have the BBC link (IT BIff). I agree there must be worse fans in England never mind Europe. Looks like a lets knock English soccer fans attempt to me.

The report takes into account the last 4 seasons! Haven't Liverpool been one of the most successful teams in Europe over this time?

2 Champions League finals and a Quater final appearance. Therefor that means they've probably played more games in Europe than most. Surely that has to skew the findings.

If I were going to take a good calculated guess on who are the worst trouble supporters here in the UK, I'd go for :

Millwall ( I was at the 2002 game when It all went mental at the New Den against Birmingham, not nice at all!)
Stoke
Cardiff

Manure fans are the pits as far I am concerned.

After being at Old Trafford to watch the Rams play and beat them and hearing them cheer each announcement of the deaths of Liverpool fans on the day of the Hillsborough disaster as if utd had scored I have held the club and it's fans in the lowest esteem imagianable.

I would say the Italian fans have taken over as the worst in europe. These nutters have a very sophisticated network of contacts, setting up fights, riots etc..

Why cant people just behave themselves and watch football in peace?! It is a game after all, and if someone cant see the opposing team score without kicking off, then they shouldn't watch it at all! All football fans are the same, not just Liverpool's. Why cant you lot just get along?

"Beautiful game" MY AR$E!!!!!

Worst in Europe?

Worst in Europe?

From a personal perspective Liverpool have alot to answer for.
1. When they rioted in Belguim in 1985 it cost not only West Ham a place in Europe, but the whole of English football for the next 5 years, and it could have been longer.
2. Then they steamed into Hillsborough and created the worst disaster that has happened to football. It had 2 effects, the terrible loss of life and as important it changed football stadia forever. This has a double effect. Nice stadiums and facilities...but at a cost to the everyday supporter.

When it was shown on the news with scousers steaming the turnstiles at Athens, it made me sick. Theyu harp on about the tragedy of Hillsborough, and yet they were happy to potentially set another one off again.

Rant over.

This rant doesn't mean I don't sympathise with the families of the dead at Hillsborough, far from it, I am a football fan after all!

Please don't tar all football fans with the same brush!
I am a lifelong football fan, and although I have been witness to trouble, I have never been involved in it, so we are not ALL the same!

Same as in most walks of life, there are good moments and there are bad moments, but it is only the bad that gets the headline publicity.

According to here the report isn't actually out yet. Presume that the reports are from press leeks.

Well put. I was going to add my 2 penny worth but you covered it so much more eloquently that I ever could!

bit below the belt.

bit below the belt.

its a bit of a cheap shot to Liverpool really.

When the fans of Galatasary and Fenerbache play away in europe they dont often behave. similar to some certain Italian fans ( cough Roma cough )

For some reason, iv found football governing body has had it in for the whole of English football. Whenever Liverpool fans have been in Scotland they have been fine, not just Liverpool fans but fans of all English sides are a good laugh when they travel north :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Hillsborough

Hillsborough

I cant believe that some small minded people have brought up Hillsborough.

All the fans wanted to do was watch their team play of game football instead they were left to the slaughter by the ground officials and the police who opened up the gates and the fans flooded in.

As for Athens, the officials were warned that they were 5000 forged tickets on sale and that many thousands of fans would go over to Greece without tickets.
The grounds staff were not checking the tickets so let in fans with forged tickets.
I am sure that after spending your hard earned money an air fares, tickets, accommodation etc you would not have taken it politley that you could not go into the ground with a genuine ticket.
I know that all people be it raf or civi would have gone mental.
These two examples are mistakes by the officials and it is always the fans fault so no body will loose their precious jobs.

Angry Liverpool fan

Hillsborough is always an emotional subject for many people, myself included.

I won't revist the Utd thing i mentioned earlier but I want it on record that any blame the fans carry is minimal to that of South Yorkshire Police who held the fans outside Sheffield till the last minute before letting them into town, I know because at 1.30 we passed the front of the cue on the woodhead road which stretched back to Tintwhistle being held by police on bikes.

Or the fault of SWFC whose lousy signing at the leppings lane end caused fans to funnel down the tunnel to cause the crush. Only weeks before I was caught in the same sort of crush when I watched Derby play there simply because there were no signs pointing to the pens which were empty at either side of the pens behind the goal where the crush happened.

Or the copper on the horse who lost his bottle and opened the gates in a fit of panic,

Or the officials whorefused to delay the kick off etc.

Let us put things into perspective whilst no teams fans universally behave Hillsborough was not tha fault of the fans but a failure of several systems simultaneously.

I don't think Liverpool fans are the worst in Europe. Yes they are passionate fans and yes they travel in huge numbers to watch a very popular team which may be part of the reason the afore mentioned events happened. Also, were both grounds designed to the 'spec' that they are today, no. We tend to learn from the mistakes that not only fans contribute to but also the other organisations such as the police. Don't get me wrong, every fan is responsible for his/her behaviour but there are means of lessening the risks now i.e the all seater stadiums. I look at the stadiums around Europe and most were not designed specifically for football, eg Juventus' Stadio Delle Alpi.
Ive watched Reading a lot this year and the worst ive seen there were Man Utd fans. They deliberately went looking for fights and were jumping off their moving coaches after the game, probably as a result of being held 1-1! I guess it hurts!
