So who was there this afternoon? A mention of e-goat during the grim briefing got a few laughs so I assume there must be a few members around here?

It seems we are 101% manned against current establishments. With ISK and other units to close I would say redundancies are inevitable in TG1(obviously nothing official or implied by the drafter, just common sense).

It seems there isnt a lot of movement at the moment and wont be until the manning plot clears....mostly obvious stuff..but good to hear from the horses mouth, and get the gen from the real RAF and not just this board.

Project Zeus, SNCO career management sounds interesting. It'll be good to stop decent posts being blocked and get a bit of movement again....sharing the good news around.

Would depend on outflow due to natural wastage and recruitment, not to mention the fact that more than a few officers might go this time, redundancies might be few for TG1 as with other trades IMO.

We had the AMPBT here at Northolt on Monday and the brief did not really give over anything new apart from the Pension review that will start in Apr 2013. Anyone on the 75 pension scheme will only get a 3 months tax free redundancy package, so IMO it sounds like the package will taget those on the 75 pension.

Project Zeus; wef Dec 10 career managers will attempt to apply career frameworks to the personnel they manage ie for Police it might be PS for a tour then in line with framework, SI. . Recommended tour length will be 3 years, then you will be prime for assignments. Thus creating movement and shifting those SNCO who remain in post forever and a day.

Could you expand on that?

Ok, from memory. The drafters will take an outreach approach to managing our careers. At the three year point they will give us a call to discuss our next move. They will look for us to complete 3-5yr tours. The TS has given each desk officer a career profile which they will aim to follow. I asked if this will be fed into the promotion board system (ie if we dont follow the TS ideal route would we be disadvantaged), I was unclear with the answer, I think the assumption was that the specialist officer in attendance would probably refer to it.

The aim is for the RAF to get used to moving around again and stop those of us in decent posts not clinging on to them at the detriment of those stuck in crappy posts (Odiham here I come..). However they also said AMP wanted to keep disturbance to a minimum...I suspect post Zeus, the minimum will be higher than today.

They stressed the need to keep our choices up to date and said that the comments field is also looked at. I for example stated in mine that if I would prefer to stay in my current post at least until I have finished my uni course...that sort of thing will be considered when they go through their processes. It causes them a lot of work if when they call up, you havent bothered to keep your JPA up to date. They didnt say so, but I suspect there is a chance they may not be too sympathetic if they give you what you asked for and you've changed your mind.

One interesting thing was 'black economy' postings, where you have inside knowledge of a forthcoming posting. They said that they are unable to disadvantage others by allowing 'back doors' into posts, although if someone else isnt higher up the choice criteria (LTD etc) you may still get it.

TG1 at 101% Manned?

Is that all of TG1, or just the ATechM's - I know we'd still like to be TG2 but the ATechAv's are now in TG1, and not forgetting the Bombheads.

Last ATech Av info I saw from Manning STILL said 'See RAF Placement Plan' - has this finally changed?

What's a TS?

Who are the drafters? Are they all shinies? If so, why?

The drafters are TG17...I believe they tried having each trade career manage themselves years ago but it was seen not to work. Others on this board will know better than me.

The assembled were ATechM and ATechAv. The drafter didnt qualify the 101% apart from saying that we were at 86% PR10 establishment cuts.

TS is a Trade Sponsor, for us a Sqn Ldr.

Starting to move people around again interesting, I wonder where all the money will come from to move people around.

Did they mention what this career profile looked like, and are ever likely to see it?

This will create a 2-tier system where people can elect to remain in situ for the sake of family stability, whereas the career man can uproot his family every 3 years to steal an advantage on his peers.

To be honest, at my stage of life, I would take the former and remain in a post commutable from my home on a daily basis rather than being a weekend husband/dad with an extra stripe/crown and another £70 per month in my salary.

Its all going around full circle again, twas not only a few years back they were pushing people towards buying houses to cut back on SFA.

Well the word at Kinloss today was not so good. In fact there was no good news at all. What they told us with regards to allowences packages and the stuff used to help people move around is getting reduced. HTD and all the perks are being removed, pensions to be reduced and a lot of culling to happen.

At least he was being honest but its not going to help the people still unsure of the future. If you considered leaving the service this is that time now to take a long hard think and try and get out with as much as you can financially.

Does anyone have a full list of the proposed reductions in allowences that they are talking about.

Has the grim reaper hacked your account? That is one harsh post, lets hope things will work out a little better than they are predicting. HTD has already been cut.

I think that the correct term is the the HTD rates have been reduced.

Every review looks at cutting (ie removing) HTD, especially for those in private housing, on the basis that the vast majority of civvy employers don't pay people to travel to work. Lots of pros and cons either way (ie paying HTD can save on paying relocation allowances; those in FQs don't choose where they live so why should they be penalised finacially for being allocated a FQ 49 miles away from his/her unit rather than on his/her unit). I wouldn't be surprised if it was being looked at again.

You think you'll have a choice? As soon as you hit three years you will be ripe for the picking.

I can't see how this will be made to work, in all trades, after 3 years you are starting to get good on the jet and your Q course and the such is starting to pay off. How will sqns cope when nearly everyone has 3 years or less experience?
