Yet another job to do...

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Watch out at this far north ops we have now been give a new job to do as well as ops. They are closing comcen so we now have to do all the signals carp as well as the day to day ops stuff. I have been informed that comcens are to be closed across the UK, so if you run 24/7 watch out.

You will probably end up being under a Guard comcen somewhere and most of yous signals traffic will be PTH'd till the morning unless it is operationally important in which case the old secure fax will be with you!

Shouldn't cause any more work. My Unit does this now.

So if you're handling signal traffic, that must mean you're a CIS specialist and as such on the higher pay scale....

Sound like lean may have reached you, it would be interesting to see what the TG9 hierarchy makes of you taking on another trades role.

So which far northern unit are you at then?

Your havin a laff us so called CIS specialists that were commcen lock ups from the old days of TG11 still havent made the high pay scale (unless got Cpl tapes)

ASOPs (scopies) been doing this on deployed radar sites for years, cant remember any problems!

The only thing we are aloud to PTH is routine; everything else has to be authd for PTH by a duty dog which is funny as they normally reply with” what does that mean". We also have to cover sig traffic for los as well as kss.

Have been doing this for years over here. As well as running a sub armoury and holding cash for 'Emergency Issue'.

All this just so we don't have to call in the 'On Call Duty Bod'!!

A job needs doing and clearly people think that duty ops staff are more than capable of dealing with it. If they didn't, it wouldn't even be considered.

I have been doing something similar as a JNCO on shift and yet I don't feel the overwhelming urge to bleat about it. I would happily be given the opportunity to do the same as a FOM (albeit not that far north).

Awaiting incoming....................

well at least it gives the ops bods in ISK something to do......:PDT_Xtremez_42:

And I've just been told we're getting it in the new year.

Right then - How do I claim substitution pay for doing a TCO's job?

No then

No then

TCOs, ie AC/LAC/SAC TG 11 were on the low pay scale, same as you.

You could try claiming for work of an objectional nature.

Or you could stop bleating...we all seem to do everybody elses jobs these days..

Yes But

Yes But

Errrm, I'm not an SAC/LAC as the name suggests.

Yes but TCOs were, TCCs were Cpl and above but they wouldn't normally be doing the night duty anyway...

Man up and crack on.

Yeah Fomz, "man up"! perhaps the 15 month turnaround for OOA's, being a man of many skills, guide for the many, many unexperienced airman and font of all knowledge isn't enough for someone on the lower pay band:PDT_Xtremez_42:

Maybe we will at least get some sensible signal traffic.

Off at a tangent - does MPA still send that stupid one every Saturday night saying that [insert rank] Smith is on the overnight AT flight and doesn't require transport from Brize? As SDO I used to get really peeved with being called out at oh-my-gawd on a Sunday morning because of the priority status of such a nonsense signal. So much so that I always used to acknowledge with the same priority, attn Chf Clk.

FOMz, just remember, you live to work and not the opposite. cup of corrrfeee

Thanks Hmmm, sage like words as always (I think)

I came up with a cracking idea last night. I think the TG9 should no longer file Flight Plans, because they can be a pain in the arse lets face it and no one likes doing it.

I think this job should be done by............... Stewards or Riggers...

Sounds familiar? I bet someone got a big fcuking promotion out of selling that little gem to the masses.

Show me a trade that is as flexible and adaptable. I always worried about TG9 self-destructing but the reality is that it has some of the brightest and most capable individuals in the RAF. So what if you do COMCEN's job - it just proves that a TG9 cpl/SAC is worth so much. The pay thing was/is/will be irritating but I'm sure it will be sorted, eventually.
