Did anybody else see this on Monday night? I must admit I found it interesting but was anybody else a bit put out by the ommision of the RAF's contribution ie by the Vulcans, Victors, Harrier GR3s etc.

I missed most of this series - apparently the Stalingrad one was brilliant. Anyone see that one?

Yes ......................... But you have to be thankful that they said it was an Harrier attack at Goose Green and not a Sea Harrier attack.

Disappointed but not surprised.

I also noticed no mention of Royal Marines or Ghurkas, so we're not alone.

Ahhhh crap!!!!
I missed it.
I have seen nearly all the other episodes. They are very good.
Anyone know if the Falklands one will be repeated?

At least I think we can be thankful that they didn't brand the RN and RAF as the Army like other people in the Media like to do. :PDT_Xtremez_42:

In general a helicopter is Army and a Harrier is Navy............according to the press!!!
We in the RAF dont really exist, I reccomend we all wear bodge tape like in the SAS photos!!!:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Maybe the term "Above the rest." really does have some meaning to it? :PDT_Xtremez_17: In the way the RAF is so high and mighty compared to the other two services, that no one actually knows if the RAF exists. :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Next weeks show is about Gulf War 1, so they will have to mention the RAF on that one. Won't they?????

Of course not, as it was the Army that was flying the Tornadoes and Jags. :PDT_Xtremez_35:

I haven’t thought much of the series to be honest, made for the Spam market without doubt and some of it was not that well researched. A lot was left out on the Falklands one, like South Georgia for starters (which pushed the Argies plans forward to April from the planned invasion date of July 82. (had that happened, We would never have got the place back as Hermes would have been in mothballs)). Stuff about the 'New' Sidewinder was a load of Bollo@ks as well, as all of the AIM-9L shots in the war were from the rear and well within the no escape limits of the earlier 9G winders that we had before the start of the war, no mention was made of the fact that the argies air forces tactics sucked either.

Or the Buccs, Pumas, Wokka's and the Tanker/AT/Herc fleets that were spread about the Gulf at that time

Oh, and the Grimmies out of Seeb..................

What are those funny names supposed to mean? :PDT_Xtremez_14:

How the media goes around reporting conflicts and the services is bloody shameful. I thought the Media was supposed to support the Forces and be acting as propaganda for us and not the enemy?

Wokka - Chinook, from the sound of the rotors.

Grimmies - Nimrod.

AT - Air Transport (VC10 C1 and Tristar C2)

Someone did it again. :raf: Sarcasm certainly doesn't work on the 'net very well does it? :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Crack on then. :PDT_Xtremez_09:

Missing Helicopter!

Missing Helicopter!

I knew they were going to gloss over a few details as they only had an hour to cover the entire conflict, but there were quite a few glaring ommissions:PDT_Xtremez_42:

The one that made me laugh the most was that ALL the helicopters onboard Atlantic Conveyer were lost.

I thought they would have made a bit of a mention about BN (The survivor).

The only wokka to make it down there during the conflict is still flying now... last I heard it was out in the stan!:PDT_Xtremez_28:

I get so p!ssed off when they dumb down factual programmes (I won't call them documentaries, they don't warrant that description) - yer actual Joe Public, who in all likelihood doesn't pick up a book from one week to the next, will take it all as gospel.

The best channel for stuff like this is the History Channel - they did a cracking series called "Line of Fire" where they did some smashing progs on battles throughout history, including Agincourt, Gettysburg, Stalingrad, Moscow, Berlin, Passchendaele, it was bloody good.

Shame really - terrestrial channels have made a good stab at the history stuff - Simon Schama's History of Britain was superb, bringing the subject to the masses.

As usual, a great medium such as television is allowed to go to pot. People would rather watch trash like Big Brother and You've Been Framed instead....
