Had a bit of a look around and found this on the subject

However it doesn't seem to answer my question.

Im off on a course next month: Hotel accommodation, food to be bought etc... I, however, went and bought a car this month so im a bit close to the wire on funds for a few months untill I get my savings back up. So what I was wondering was how much can you advance claim for a course for your hotel fees, food charges etc? I cant be spending, For Example, £1000 on a hotel and £24 a day for my food and then just claim it back afterwards because Mr Nat West will be knocking on my door with a big stick. If the RAF give me some sob story like you can claim 50% of your hotel fees I just wont go. Making me pay to go on a course is not and acceptable situation. I'll stop there before I get on a rant. I might be surprised by the answers.

The travel cell at my unit booked and paid for the hotel for two pauper SAC's sent away from here recently...Have you spoke to them?

you can claim 90% of your hotel costs in advance (I may be wrong as I am not a shiney) but you will have to pay for your food and claim it back later mind keep you receipts.

Thats what Grips my s*it so for a £1000 hotel bill I have to pay £100 from my own pocket and, as the course is 11 days i have to pay £264 for my food? Perhaps I'll claim my overdraft charges back too.

*edit* My unit has no travel cell. Just a small deployable asset we are. Thats why I asked here. *edit*

I am pretty sure you can claim for it all in advance, but any advance has to be backed up with a receipted claim within 30 days or recover action will be taken.

So i could claim 100% of the hotel and say 50% of the food and anything over that I can claim back afterwards? I could handle that. My rage would subside slightly.

We did a hotel det to Kinloss in January...I was only there for 3 days so didn't bother with an advance but the rest who were there for two weeks claimed in advance for the whole bundle...As long as your receipts tally and heaven forbid you hand in any money you didn't spend then it's coolio...

Just been looking at this myself, you can claim 90% of the hotel and subsistence. We have a very helpful civvy JPA auditor. You can even add in you IE but they advise against that.

Fair enough I'll do the sums and claim 100% of my hotel and 50% of my food. I'll be eating steak and lobster every night to make the deficit up.

You'll have to check the JSP for the exact detials but with the food i think anything over 2 days away and your daily subsistance is commutable so at £24.52 a day for food you could spend like £10 one day, £8 the next and then spend over £50 on a fancy meal the next, thats what i ended up doing last time i was away!

The correct, anything over two days can be aggregated, but remember you must maintain the guidance that you food bought has to provided value for money for the MOD ::P:

Really? Some more good gen. Cheers lads. Cant think what I could get for £50 in a KFC. Thats a sh*t load of chicken there.:PDT_Xtremez_17: Or show off with some fancy wine.

Thats changed for us now...Last year the rule was up to half a bottle of of wine or two beers with your evening meal...Now it's a standard glass of wine or a pint or one bottle of beer...

It depends on what your 'standard' glass is...Mines the size of a medium flower vase...

Just makes it that little bit more annoying that you can't just order a bottle between two of you in the evening...I hope they spend the £1.50 they save wisely...Maybe we could give it to an MP...I hear they're hard done to...

Wish it was like the old days where you would get your money and live off Pot Noodles and drink the lot. This course would have been a belter. Ho hum.

and your one pint/whatever has to be on the same receipt as your meal. However if I was auditing you I would approve a claim for a the price of a 1/3 of reasonably priced wine. Then again I'm nice!

Having recently put in an advance it worked like this.

Ensure hotel is booked through the service booking agency for the stay there.

They will then tell you how much this will cost.

Add to this cost your meal allowance for the number of days you are entitled.

Fill in the relevent JPA bit for advances and for me £507 was in my account 4 days later. You let them know when the last day of your stay is and the money will be recovered 31 days after that.

When I got back I just filled in my JPA expenses claim as usual and included my incidentals and misc. travel costs eg taxis/buses. The total cost came to £537.

Then by the miracle of electrickery and a couple of clarifications on to why i used transport from the airport to my hotel:PDT_Xtremez_35: £30 pounds was paid into my account the difference between my advance and the actual cost.

Remember that money will come out of your wages 31 days after your return date so make sure you do actually use the advance for what it is intended or yo will get a nasty shock.

We recently had the edict passed down that it was 1 drink per day but then i think a glass of wine is one drink( a bottle is made of glass ).

Just had to work out what my advance will be for 2 weeks hotel and subsistance. Although oyu can claim for 90% of the max i'm going for 100% of hotel + 70% food just to be safe.

Am I being a massive mong? why would the money be recovered? Im all confused now. You get the advance then you claim it again when you get back? so If i get an advance of £100 if I dont put in a claim for £100 Ill get it took off me in 31 days?

The receipts (the claim) are proof you have not just decided to borrow the money. If you put an advance in for £1000 you have effectively borrowed that amount to pay for your expenses (Hotel costs and food). By submitting the JPA claim on return you are 'proving' you have been away. If the acual cost was £1100 and you have receipts to prove it (must be legitimate reasons) then the difference will be paid to you.

If on the other hand you only spend £900 pounds then when your claim has been submitted you owe them £100 and that will be recovered from your pay 31 Days after the last day of your course.

If you do not submit a claim at all then the full amount of £1000 will be recovered.
