Well I left the RAF Regiment in 1999. The parade when 1 squadron left RAF Laarbruch was in 1998 and we had the Albatross and cloth badge on the cap on our No 1's.
I never had my No1's changed as I was leaving the mob in a few months.

If i remember correctly we had to get our No1's changed in 1998 after we came back from Bosnia for the medals..

So I would say 1998 when it was re introduced.

Oh and it was an Albatross on the RAF crest, officers cap badge. This is what was taught at RAF Swinderby in 1988.

So for the arm badge its only logical that its the Albatross.

It was told that it was the albatross, as the Albatross spends most of its life in air and it covers can vast distances without having to land.

anyway it would have to be a golden eagle as this is the only native large eagle in the UK and the drawings of the bird dont look anything like an eagle, but they do look like an abatross

I was informed by the training staff at Cranwell that the bird above NCA rank was an Albatross...and that it must always face backwards on each shoulder. [in true NCA tradition checking your six for the incoming knives]
