OK , wossa "scopey" ?
After many hours of hard brain bending , frantic telephone calls to they who know (they don't) , and sleepless nites , I werked it out . I thimk .
Iss fairies , innit ?
I wuz a Fairy .
I like Fairies .
I have some at the bottom of my garden .
I talk to them .
It beats talking to yourself .
Which I am probably doing right now .
Prove me wrong .

Jet M------------happy for peeps to know who I am .

There is life out there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is life out there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah , I nearly got it right then because that thing looks like something I should know about .
But I don't . Perhaps because when I stopped scoping , we had focus and brill controls .

Cannot remember the last time I saw a round screen and I have been a scopie for too many years to talk about. Flat screen displays are the future nowadays, and we don't have to sit in dark rooms any more!

Sardit , batman .

Sardit , batman .

So there was this thingy on here entitled "Scopeys" .
Nobody had posted a dicky bird in it .
So , I thunk , get the ball rolling and fill empty space .
It got moved .
So it's empty again .
Sigh .

Thats because the Scopies merged into TG9 and use that forum. The scopie forum is waiting to be deleted... Thats why its empty.

Good grief

I have no idea of how I was expected to know that . Please enlighten .
And I still don't know what a scopey is , or even what my old trade is labelled (other than L Fitt (AR)) .

'nuther sigh

They are trade related forums... To enable trades to talk shop amongst themselves, thats all. So if you arent inthat trade group, why would you post in it. As for you not knowing The trade had merged..... Ignorance is not an excuse in RAF parlance.

Since the guy was an L Fitt (AR), I think he may have left the RAF 30 years or so ago, so why don't you answer his question if you know the answer rather than quote the old "Ignorance is not an excuse in RAF parlance", which I'm sure he has heard a million times.

To the OP, AFAIK Scopies are people who were too dense to even be ATC and were consigned to places such as Neatishead and stared at screens all day, watching for the Russkies who consistently failed to show up.

Edited to add: No you're not thick....not compared to scope dopes anyway:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Thank you for a well considered , not knee jerk reply .
You are correct , I cut my teeth on things with four windy things on the wings .
So what's an Air Radar Fitter called these days -----apart possibly from Fairy?

I'm not too sure what you would be nowadays. When I were a lad, I was TG3, which had previously been TG2 but then split and became 3 separate trades ( L Tech AD, L Tech AF and L Tech TC).

The aircraft electronic trades remained as TG2 and AFAIK became L Tech AC, L Tech FS and L tech AR AFAIK.

Your trade would have become L Tech AR, with the "L" standing for "Electronics" and the "Tech" replacing "Fitt" as we became tecnicians rather that fitters, although people still went on their "fitters' course" to become technicians, if that makes sense.

Since I left in 1994, it has all changed again so perhaps someone with more up to date knowledge will be able to provide some better gen but I think your lot are now probably Avionics Techs.

Glad to have you aboard, scopie.

Round scopes were designed by God Himself.

The square talk-down tubes too.

ATC chaps were (probably still) not at all dense. They have minds 400 miles across and 80,000ft deep. A lot of space there for all sorts of intellectual gems.

I suppose if there is lots of unfilled space then you are correct in your assertion that they can't be dense.

The billiance that shines from such gems, fills the void.

I note your Scottish Flag .
So the Scots still rush to the aid of the downtrodden .
I spent 7 years at Kinloss , I enjoyed it . Being a Brummie , we had a language problem , could never understand why they asked for my passport at the Border .
My son was born in Inverness .
Come to think , my twin daughters were born in Cyprus , so I have no English children .
Anyway , my son has inhereited all those good Scottish traits , except he doesn't drink . But by golly , he does look after me .
