Best/worst car you've ever had?

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Worst car- Cr@ppy 1.6 Sierra, fekkin rust bucket heap of sh1t. Got so mad with it one day I kicked one of the front doors off.
Best car- Current Audi S4, the odd tweak or 2 under the bonnet and lo and behold it produces over 400 bhp. Everytime I get into it I smile:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Our worst car had to be the 1.6 escort of my wifes.
Had an intermitant electrical fault where everything would suddenly die.
She was coming home late one night on the motorway when everything shut down. She was terrified. Two mins later, she turned the key and the bugger fired up. Had it into the auto electricians next day but they couldnt find a fault. It died on me on the way home. Got traded in for a Vectra next day.
A year on, the Vectra had a leak on the aircon matrix, then found the fuel injection system was playing up.
That got traded in for a 2.0ltr turbo D Citroen Zsara estate. That's now done 180,000 miles and has never faltered, does 60mpg. Gets a dealer service once a year for £240 and that includes free MOT.
I drive a Frontera 2ltr sport. Everything can be taken apart and rebuilt.
Rear brakes cost me £8 and take 20mins to replace. 100% reliable and 30 mpg. Insurance is £190 per year, comprehensive with green flag breakdown cover included from Saga.:PDT_Xtremez_28:

Best car: My current Alfa 156 2.0GTS. After having 2 Fiats and telling ourselves we would not have another Italian car, we test drove this when we were going to look for a Focus! Stunning looks, sports car performance from an excellent engine, and space for the family. Best 7 grand I've spent

Most fun car: My B reg Nissan Cherry Europe - Cherry body, Alfa flat 4 1.5 boxer engine. Went like stink, blew away XR2s and 3s from the lights and best of all got it free from my Mum after the Fiancee at the time fooked off with another bloke and half my savings!

Worst car: Ex-fiancee (see above) had an absolute dogsh1te Sierra 1.6LX. was supposed to be white but you couldnt tell through the rust, brakes worked on a "need to know" basis (the best way to find out was not doing 90 then breaking for a roundabout!) . Ended up paying someone to take it away - went to the scrappy myself just to make sure they destroyed the fecker!

Worst car - my first - a clapped out MKII Ford Escort. Pride & joy at the time as I was in the 6th form - until I filled the oil up on the sloping road outside my folks.... strangely, the oil seals went just after.... I wonder why??

Best car? Well according to my mechanic last week - it was strangely the £500 Rover 216 SLi that the cam belt went on! It had the Honda engine, and went like a dream - and I got told that it was such a shame it had gone t*ts up as it was a damn good car otherwise!! Certainly didnt owe me anything.

Mind you - as for fun - that has to be either my little Renault 5, which was great for cornering on 2 wheels, or my Nissan Almera (old shape one) which used to surprise most boy racers as she was so light and therefore quick off the lights!!

Fingers crossed that the new Vectra is as good - looking good so far, as returning over 40mpg!!! And a comfy ride over the tiny lanes of rural Lincs!!!

Current car ...... 18 yr old BMW 520 , cost me £300 and was one of my better buys , it's a tank but im quite fond of it.

Most fun car ... either one of my Mini's , nothing worked , it leaked everything and the fun of trying to haul my 20 stone lard ar$e in and out was a joy to behold .... but boy oh boy , play with them in the snow and its heaven , nothing ive had does a handbrake turn / slide in the snow like a mini.

Worst car .... Renault Laguna - i guess it was my own fault for buying this french piece of sh!te ! it was french and it was sh!te .... what more can i say

Best & Worst

Best & Worst

Best is my current - Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 DTI. Comfortable Smooth ride.

Worst - Rover 214si.alternator went after having it 8 miles, all downhill from there. That said it did take me from Lossie to Lancashire every other weekend for 8 months, but it was still $hit.

My best & worst.....

My best & worst.....

Worst has got to be 1.3 Rover Montego, don't know why I bought it young and stupid at the time. Far too heavy for that size engine, hence worn cylinder rings and a plume of blue smoke everytime I went above 3000 revs or 40 mph. Still happy ending though paid £400 but 6 mths later got £550 on a trade in for my best ever car.

Best, 1.4 Citroen BX with the pneumatic suspension. Fast as **** for the engine size, economical & pretty stylish looking for the time(94), shame I wrote her off 9 mths after getting her.

Not really had a bad car, but if it has to be the worst it would be

B reg vw polo coupe, good around town crap, on any distance as it had 4 gears and a 1000cc's of power!

Best: almost tie between my old civic type r and my current scooby sti, scooby just edges it. Both exceptional cars, civic didnt have air con, very stiffly sprung, not enough power :PDT_Xtremez_35: uber fun to drive. but returned a fair mpg rating 35+ mpg on a motorway. scooby softer sprung so slightly more comfortable on norfolk road, air con, soooo much grip it hurts, loadsa power, but rubbish mpg, 30 on a motorway if your clever, 20 around town if your lucky, but so awesome to drive.

Best ever................erm?
Wifes Citroen zsara estate 2ltr turboD.
Boring as fcuk to look at.........65mpg around town, and on motorway at 70mph...................if I can get her to keep to 70mph.

"But it'll do lots more mph" she say's!!!:PDT_Xtremez_03:

Well the best car I've had is me current one. Mondeo 1.8 Zetec. Nothing special I know compared to some, but it carries all the mono's and it goes well for a family car!

Favorite car though was my first. 950cc Fiesta. The engine was awesome, but the only let down, it fell apart in rust and had to bin it. Handled like a baked bean can on 4 big lumps of jelly, but it was so much fun!

Worst - A 9 year old (at the time) Astra that I bought for £100. Every day I drove it, it seemed more and more like a stolen car.... Had a 1.2 engine that generated as much torque as a hamster wheel at full pelt. Only had 4 gears, and if you wanted to go above 50 the choke had to come out a smidge.

Vauxhall Zafira

Vauxhall Zafira

Bought a vauxhall Zafira Elegance (top of the range - 6 months old) had numerous problems over 2 year period before I got rid.

Alarm kept going off whether the car was locked / unlocked - problem attributed to power sounder (replaced twice), brakes siezed due to incorrectly fitted calipres (turned out to be wrong type of calipre!!), some engine valve failed which starved the engine of air and made it cut out at jcts, head light bulbs started popping randomly (numerous bulbs replaced - new ciruitry had to be installed), Alarm started going off again randomly - attributed to a pain break in rear glass window. The glass was replaced at significant cost only for the alarm to go off again weeks later!! Finally, the engine management unit died suddenly whilst travelling up the A17 - very scary!!!.

On one of the many occassions that the vehicle was in my local vauxhall dealership I met up with 7 other Zafira owners waiting for repairs of a similar nature who where all suffering from similar faults and who were equally as hacked off as me (some had vehicles newer than mine!!).

Moral of the story if you're thinking about buying a Zafira be affraid - be very afraid!!!! Worst car I've ever had!!!

Worst car: Ford Fiesta 1.0, nicknamed by everyone on camp as Kangaroo as it bounced down the road when it was first started in the morning as the choke didn't work properly, was really slow as well, good first car as it taught me to look very carefully before doing anything....

Best car: Mazda 6, bought it new and absolutely loved it, drove brilliantly and was really comfy for the long trips from Norfolk to Devon, had to get rid last year as it was too expensive to keep her in London :PDT_Xtremez_38:

Worst car by far... mentioned this on the 'one stop motor shop' would have to be the Fiat I bought in a hurry. Mr SW decided that my Micra (Bob) was too old and small for us so sold it to his sister!! I made the most ill advised purchase of my life... an R reg Fiat Brava (never had a nickname as I hated it!) On the way back from buying it one of the timing belt tensioners failed... cue first low-load. In the following 2 months we replaced 2 fuel injectors (one had been done just before we bought it) and the fourth one started acting up. It over-ran when the ignition was turned off and was generally a dog.

Best Car(s)... Bob the Micra obviously... bought for £150, new panel and all spare bits bought from scrappy for £50. Welding done by a mate and panel etc fitted by me. Ran on a teaspoon of fuel, no hassle, no bother...QUITE NIPPY ROUND TOWN, first car after passing my test so I loved it, looked after it and sold it for £300. Also a Mazda 6. Thought we had bought a lemon when the CV joint went and we had all kinds of problems getting a new one to fit as it was a change-over year car and I think the parts had been handmade! With hindsight though was a lovely car to drive, quite pretty and fitted us all in.

BTW... anyone want a Y reg Vectra or a P reg Escort both reasonable nick, looked after but high mileage, reasonable prices... PM me or MiTV!!

Bloody hell, well done love!! I hope the housework didn't get neglected though??:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Was it nippy around town?

I'm braced for an incoming slap.:PDT_Xtremez_42:
