Best: Hilton in Salalah, Oman, beach facing with patio doors straight onto beach.
Worst: Nasirayah (spell?) In Iraq, small tent which was ripped apart by the wind, no beds/furniture just bare. Ended up sleeping in the wagon for a week. Only showers were cold and you had to stand on a wooden pallet to avoid the filfth.

The Hilton Salalah was one of my favourites, being something of a regular haunt at one stage. The nearby Oasis Club was great for a meal.

Worst was between transit at Barnham Camp in the mid eighties and a tent in the Kuwait Airways training hangar a short while after GW1. The missile/bomb lodged in the roof set it off nicely.

Basra and Incirlik were delightful in comparison, and, tbf the catering (or allowances) were top-notch.

I have marked Basra down for the over aggressive neighbours.

Best was the Diplomat (Bahrain), worst was a B&B in Whitney while on a course at BZN Bruggen would not pay for a Hotel!!!!!!!!!

Spent 4 years on a Rock Sqn in the early 90's so more than my fair share of shell scrapes and Bivvy's.

Ha! Spent a lot of time at the Oasis. Cyril, the owner, claimed to be ex-South African SF.

That was transit back then. Drive from Lyneham (in a L/R) work and then try and sleep in a big room with people coming and going before doing it all again.

All the blocks bar one were single rooms when I was posted to Honington in 81 I think it was. The block nearest the NAAFI was 4 man rooms.

On the subject of transit accommodation, I once stayed overnight in transit at Southwick Park Sgts Mess en route to a Uni short course that started at lunchtime the following day and my unit wouldnt pay for hotel . I arrived about midnight and picked up my key to the room in an unstaffed reception. I had to make my bed - literally. The whole thing was in bits in a corner.

I took photos to show my wife and glad I did as a fortnight later I was sent a terse email from their Mess Manager as to why I hadnt settled my mess bill on departure. The photo was sent as a reply and I never heard from them again.

Rather three clever techies who kept it small to keep any heat in. Only daft people sleep in snow holes when there are perfectly good hotels. Were you in the army?
