Higher Pay Band
Higher Pay Band
I posed this question to a very high ranking Officer from a secret Air Force base just outside Wycombe during a forum last week.
I am currently waiting for a response from his department but as far as is known, the pay award is still going ahead. However lets be realistic, we as a nation are stone broke and if the award still goes ahead then all is good.
For the Jnco's, keep your chins up, awkward questions have been asked high up and continue to be asked. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Here is the original question posed to the said officer......
Sir,
There is a lot of ill feeling from various branches in the RAF for TG17 Pers support branch being up banded to the higher pay band.
A Job evaluation was carried out on the TG17 back in June 08 and the Logs branch was supposed to be carried out at the same time. Unfortunately this did not happen and the JE for TG18 wasn’t carried out until Nov 08. The decision to award the higher pay band to TG17 was formalised in Oct 08 and subsequently awarded in April 09 which is before the JE was even carried out on TG18.
TG17 Cpl scored 211 points and the boundary was 218. This meant that they fell into the 5% lower discretionary boundary of 96.8%
TG18 Cpl scored 214 points and again the boundary was 218 this meant they fell into the 5% lower discretionary boundary of 98.2%
Plain and simply we scored higher.
Now the case was submitted to award the FS/SGT ranks to the higher pay band but the CPLs case was never even considered.
To add insult to injury the Movements element of Logistics were awarded the higher pay band with immediate effect back in mid April 10 which was reflected in their pay that month and any pay award to the Supplier element of Logistics is not being awarded until April 11 if it actually ever materialises.
My question is three fold?
1. Why was the management decision to award the higher pay band to TG17 Cpls and not to TG18 Cpls?
2. Why did it take 18 months to promulgate the decision to TG18 and only 5 months for TG17?
3. This is unfair and therefore could it be classed as discrimination against Logistic Suppliers and possibly illegal?
I dont want to be a scaremonger, but following the emergency budget on tuesday, rumours are rife that the planned move to the higher pay band for Supply SNCOs wont now go ahead. The annual incriments are'nt affected. It seems that the trade may have lost out again. Anyone else heard anything?
