Shame you forgot to read, "So they are needed in urban 4x4's and vans for what reason?"

I ignored it because it had no bearing on your original statement. It was your original "statement of fact" that I disagreed with, where you stated in a very stereotypical sense that ALL bullbars are merely used for decorative purposes.

For the record, I am not a fan of bullbars or similar being utilised on a vehicle that doesn't see anything but inner city roads. But, that's just my personal opinion and to be honest I don't really care whether or not someone who uses their vehicle for purely road use has one fitted or not. It is not my place to govern, let alone tell people what they can and can't have on their vehicles.

Ok then. for the record I am totally anti bull bar unless they are really needed for a purpose. I've seen the carnage they cause up close.

Bull bars were never mentioned in the original post, or indeed in the link to the news item, and, they are not fitted to my vehicle, so where you got this arguement from I don't know.
As an aside, I bought my frontera for dragging my boat up and down muddy slipways, which is bl**dy dangerous with a 2x4.

Oh my God he's stuck in a causality loop with an idiot !! :PDT_Xtremez_15:

As you full well know all that was mentioned on post #28 :PDT_Xtremez_27:

I am all for bull bars on cars, they make running over kids and grannies so much easier.

But that's the problem, innit.
It makes so much more mess and all the onlookers faint, shreik and try to drag you off to the nearest tree. And the Feds ain't that much better.

Now, if someone invented shockers for bull bars, that might be better. Then the chavs (who don't need them), can look good and the victims less messy.

Bullbars clear the way, but after an accident (oops sorry firestorm I meant Incident :PDT_Xtremez_15:) some poor fekker still has to pull the chunks out of the metal work :PDT_Xtremez_28:

But then again, I guess it keeps the cost of a BBQ down. I hear Chavs taste a little like Pork ! :PDT_Xtremez_31:

Accident/incident. I couldn't get round the silly ACPO terminology either. I think the gist was that in general it's never an accident, it's someones fault. Hence the term "incident".

Yeah

The terminology changed from Road Traffic Accident to Road Traffic Collision to Road Traffic Incident to indicate that someone somewhere is at fault and therefore liable to prosecution (after all targets have got to be met some how!)

RTI causes some confusion because it also stands for Retail Theft Initiative as well!
