Throughout basic and trade training I heard a rumour of many a people that personnel who worked on the e3 and t101 a few years back (prob bout 20) werent able to have male children due to the radiation of the radars?
Is this true or is it some myth?

When they were born they had three heads and twelve toes

But don't tell anyone it's a big state secret

There used to be Rumours about bromide in the Tea in the mess / NAAFI to stop the urge to 5hag!

Without a scientific study they're just that, "rumours".

I also heard rumours that when they tested the RADAR on monkeys it made them all super intelligent.

Thats no duff too, my mate down the pub told me :PDT_Xtremez_30:

And they became known as TECHNICIANS, doing lots of intelligent work and problem solving, just to keep aircraft in the sky, whilst being paid peanuts under pay 2000.

Blimey! It must be true!:PDT_Xtremez_19: :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Take most things you hear in the mob with a large pinch of salt. (Although lineys are gods and never lie, so I would take pie's answer as though it came from a medical consultant).

Well I'm not sure if there have been any scientific studies done but in my experiance 1984 - 2006 as a JAFAD working on so called "dirty" radars, most people I know have female offspring. There is the ocasional male child throw in but my less than scientific study showed them to be workshy which explains it.

My first wife was the eldest daughter of four (father an L Tech AD).

Got two daughters myself.

Dunno if this applies to Scopies though ... I think you need to be nearer to the business end of a transmitter.

hope that helps....

Concur with the bigfella. Most of the JAFADs I knew had a string of daughters as long as POBs sob story.

As neither have been in service for the last 20 years then your info may be flawed.

The Type 92 is a supposed killer of the Y chromosome but I would doubt there is any scientific research to back this up.

I however have worked on T91, 92, 93, 94 and 101 radars and have a little girl. Coincidence, or is there something we should be told?

It is a popular myth that certain instructors have used for years as a funny anecdote!

Anyway, as Bigfella will agree, you have to be a real man, top chap, and stunningly good looking to father baby girls! Maybe all TG12 and certain TG3 types just have all this in spades!

The effects of RF at moderate doses have yet to be confirmed. A very large dose could micro-wave you into the Pearly Gates, but you ain't goin' to be stuck at the front of a large array working full bore, are you!

Well you say that...

I am sure that Bigfella and I have worked in some places we maybe shouldn't have!

Off TopicIncidently the T93 was very good at fcuking up the ECU in Renault cars and messing with the TV.

And I could get it to sing god save the queen. Can't tell you how though... probablt get in trouble. Hang on a black car has just arrived....

Please don't worry. Current health and safety regulations guard you from any nasties. In reply to most of the previous comments; I was a ground radar fitter for quite a few years and I've got 2 boys. Myth blown.
The rest of them aren't man enough to have boys - that's all!

I wouldnt be too sure about that Ex-Bay. I know guys who have attempted this!!

Im ex - JAFAD and I have the full set (Boy and Girl) said boy is only a nipper at 18mths.

Cannot see how the Scopies would have been affected. Never saw many at the business end!

Its just a myth.

While at the RAF's most northerly back in the old days of the T96 and HF we got asked by the JAFAD Chief to test a new personal RAD HAZ detector cause the M&E boys climbed out and about all over the site. Found out that all the SAFE areas on the top site set off the alarm and the corrugated steel tunnels acted like a giant waveguide.
Mind you the scopies up there were so far away from the RADHAZ there's no way it could effect them.

Neat's T84 seemed plenty close enough, used to make scopies' fillings buzz over in the R30!

Ditto the T85 at Boulmer. However I believe it is the type of radiation rather than the power but I am sure somebody will be along to correct me later.

By the way, Mrs NAIDOY is expecting our second in November so I shall see if the curse of the 92 has struck or if it is a boy!

If I get 2 girls then there is definitely something in this!

I am a myth-buster too.
I have one lad and have worked on/with T91/92/93/94 T80/84/85 over a period of time followed by Searchwater. Although I do agree that a large proportion of guys do have girls....my tadpoles must be strong enough to withstand radiation!!!!!
