I'm surprised this hasn't been done and feel free to delete if it has.

I hate getting stuck behind caravans, but do I speak for everyone? There must be someone who likes pulling an articulated shed behind them.

So come, on slag them, defend them, tell us your views.

Should caravans be limited to certain hours? Is it just caravans who annoy other drivers or other trailers? Should we have to take an extra test in order to drive what is in effect, an articulated vehicle?

Bye the way, I'm talking about CARAVANS, not tractors, lorries or other USEFUL vehicles

As a caravan owner, let me say this..... fcuk off dogboy !! :PDT_Xtremez_31:
Seriously though, yes I believe they should not be on the roads during rush hour. Any other time whether you like it or not, they pay road tax and are entitled to use the roads. The majority of people who get upset by vanners are the kind of people who leave just enough time to complete their journey, at higher than the speed limits and don't allow a little time for hold ups. Slow down leave early and enjoy the journey, then the rest of us don't have to suffer your road rage driven death due to impatience.

A separate test for caravan towing ? I fully agree with that as the number of times my journey to and from my place of work has been lengthened, by some asshole who doesn't know how to tow a van properly and crashes it because it's badly loaded or going to fast or both, doesn't bear counting !
You can also get white van drivers especially hired vans to do the same. Most of them drive like assholes too. Don't ban caravans, ban Mercedes Sprinters :PDT_Xtremez_25:

There should be an underground transport system for all the road users that get in the way on B roads. These include trucks, lorries, vans, old people who cant see far enough to do more than 30mph and of course ferkin caravanners!!!
Best one I ever saw was an old wooden one which had rolled over on the M3. It tore itself to pieces all over 3 lanes!!! It was like a kindling factory!
Oh, and not forgetting the one on Top Gear that ended up on fire. And the ones they played conkers with!!

Late summer 2003, someone tried to take the top of the hill by M4 junction 19W at too high a speed and rolled his van into matchsticks. The car was upside down on the central reservation. Judging by the size of the Chassis, the only part of the van left, the Escort MkIII shouldn't have been towing it anyway as it was too small for the van. I hope the coppers nailed his ass to the wall for that.

Love Hate relationship

Love Hate relationship

Me I've got a bit of a love hate relationship

When I'm stuck behind one of them old tw@ts that drive them I'm glad I've got a Porker 'cos I can floor it and loose the old sods - I couldn't do that in one of them FIAT spakker wagons

But

When I'm in my Chelsea Tractor with my Caravan on the back there's nowt makes me smile so much as seeing a tall gangly big nosed fekker in a Roomster stuck behind me; thats when I set the cruise control to 28mph, turn the stereo up and laugh like a drain

Two postings to St Mawgan and the trek up and down the A30 trying to get Gloucester has put me right in the I hate caravans camp. The RAF always seemed to send me on courses to Locking/Cosford during the summer just so that I could sit in a caravan jam for 6 hours trying to get back to Newquay for the weekend.:PDT_Xtremez_25:

I cannot for the life of me see what enjoyment anyone can get from leaving a nice big house to go and live in a smal box for a week, whilst $hitting in a bucket. If some people want to then fair enough, but they should be made to tow them between 00:00 and 06:00 so that the rest of us don;t have to put up with them

Dear me you have a busy life don't you..... needing to keep the road clear for your use between 0600 and midnight !
Thanks for letting us use the roads at all your worship after all it's not like we have to pay for them as well is it ! :PDT_Xtremez_25:

If your in that much of a hurry, you should leave earlier ! ::P:

You should pay again for the Box on wheels though, you're taking up twice as much room!!!

Sod off, it has no engine ! therefore it is subject to the same rules that allow bicycles and horses on the road ::P:

Anyway, get rid of the lorries and it won't matter.
Get the caravan club to have all their sites right next to the motorway instead of up the back of beyond and the roads will always be free :PDT_Xtremez_31:

Caravans are not as bad as the horay henries with their ferkin hourse boxes that block all the roads around here

I think caravans are pretty cool, its the Max & Paddy thing (even though theirs' was a motorised one)! Its many people's home from home and why should they not enjoy them when theyve forked out the cash to buy them!
A few more tolerant drivers wouldn't go a miss!

I don't mind them at all, until I get stuck behind one going at 10mph while the occupants of the car take in the views, and maybe they should be restricted to running times. However, this would restrict me from using my trailer when I want to.

I believe that there should be an extra driving test that you have to take before towing (anything) which includes reversing. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think has now come in for new drivers not allowing them to tow, but this does not include older licence holders.

As for the point of paying extra tax………….yes I agree with that one, they take up more space on our roads so, yes we (including me) should pay for the privilege. The car tax for larger cars and 4X4’s is on the up, but even the most economic car becomes an environmental disaster whilst pulling a van.

Every on has a choice, so love em or hate em, in the end Government will probably put a tax on them. Oh well that’s another story.

Hope this helps?

I quite agree there are far too many people rushing about these days 28 MPH is fast enough for anyone unless it's getting close to opening time. I quite often pretend I have a caravan and drive deliberately slow to see how long a tailback I can create.:PDT_Xtremez_42:

Not really FFS Margaret Becket is reason enough to firebomb any caravan you see, eventually you'll get her:PDT_Xtremez_25:

What bugs me is the fact that caravanners don't use their mirror's & seem oblivious to the tailback behind them!!! ::/:

What does it say in the Highway Code? Driver's of slow moving vehicles to move over & let traffic pass. Does it happen? Not a chance!!!

Best thing I've seen done with a caravan. Jezza destroying one with a helicopter gunship in one of his programmes. :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Nightmare to be stuck behind!

Defo think you should have to do a test to tow one due to the obvious omplications.

Cant see the ppeal of living out of a caravan, they are quite expensive, think if you had the money you would do somethign better with it

Caravans - As someone in the office said this morning "Dunno what all the fuss is about since I bought mine I've never had so much clear road in front of me" :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Recreate the squalor and filth of your own scummy home! How???

Simply spend a fortune of your own hard earned cash on a plastic box on wheels where your family get to cr8p into a plastic bucket and eat pot noodles in Wales!!

Why are so many of these mongulances parked in "local authority Estates"??
