Career break

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Lets stay on topic and cut out the b1tching. The OP asked for gen, if you don't have it, don't post.

Anyone can apply for a Career Break. Whether you get one or not depends on a range of factors, not least the manning in your rank & trade. They are boarded by ACOS Manning and the individual is told. If successful they are posted to PHF H Wycombe (If over 12 months long), or to the Non-Effective MTM post at their parent Unit (If 12 months or less).

I've seen them given for a variety of reasons including:
To allow an individual to accompany their spouse overseas where no established posts exist for the individual.
To undertake a university course (Nursing, Biochemistry were a couple I can remember).
To undertake a sport professionally.
Etc, Etc.

That's about it - if you don't ask you don't get. We are all entitled to apply as it's within current regs so apply away.

Whilst on a career break you will still need to apply to do any other employment (through OC PHF) and there are restrictions on the type of job you can do. For instance, it cannot be defence/security related, so you may wish to check to see if the job offer you have would be approved before starting your CB.

I have heard that you can be promoted while on a career break - what's all that about eh?
