I have been asked recently if I require to do CCS due to my time remaining in service. Apparently there is something somewhere that says that those nearing end of service dont have to do it. No one seems to know how long before exit this is for or where it is written down. Although I have no objections to doing it can anyone tell me if this rumour has any truth?

How about letting us know how much time you have left:

1. At work, before you hand in your uniform and go on resettlement etc.
2. Before your "official" discharge date.

If you have no objection to doing CCS, then do it. I did my last CCS with 11 months to go. However, I didn’t do my last fitness test as I only had 6 months left at that stage, I didn’t use any AP references, just told them that I wasn’t doing it and they accepted it. Mind you, I was starting my terminal leave the next month.

I think an element of common sense is called for. Unfortunately, it would appear that the thing about common sense is that it is not common!

Indeed. I know of an ex-armourer who was not allowed to clear to start terminal leave because his fit test was due. He ran one token shuttle, in blues, and left the bemused PTI to it.

Now that I like!

Go to CCS in your blues and see what they say.....?

Ha! Ha! I like! I'm ex-army and it was one of the lads last BFT prior to discharge; he stopped several times for ciggie breaks.

This has prompted me to go to my next fitness test in the PT kit I was issued; white plimsolls, baggy shorts and v-neck T shirt!

I think someone is being a "jobs worth" somewhere. Mind you, the modern Air Force seems to be weeding out anyone with initiative these days. For initiative read 'application of common sense'.

When CCS is due I will have 15 months left to do prior to last day in service, that means about 11 months ish prior to resettlement.

I did my ccs with 6 months remaining until my out day & within 2 months of me starting terminal leave. I didn't want to give them the satisfaction of saying I have to do it. I just did it, nothing I hadn't done 20 odd times before & it got me 2 days away from work.

I did my last GDT within 3 months of my discharge date, they wouldn't accept the fact I was leaving.

What would they have done if you hadn't done it....kept you in?

If they won't sign your clearance chit, simple, sign it yourself! Nobody takes a blind bit of notice as long as all the boxes are signed......Cpl M.Mouse, RAF Regt..

15 months is pushing it though!

The whole issue is a farce!

I am due to start my terminal leave in 4 weeks time having completed 22yrs. Due to a bronchial condition i am currently signed off fitness tests. I am also now due my 6 monthly test and have HR jumping up and down saying i must do it before i leave the service.
My current chit runs out about 2 days before i start terminal and will most likely be extended if condition remains. I just can not understand the anal attitude about the whole thing. Especially as all i need to do is turn up and step over the start line therefore attempting said test.
I just want to know where it is laid down that the test MUST be attempted before leaving the service and to what purpose must this be.... absolutely ridiculous and a waste of time and effort.

HR jumping up and down - why? The Fitness Test is controlled, run and administered by the PTIs. The results are recorded on JPA - but the PTIs record it first on Phys (or something like that) and it then goes across.

Take it from me, they won't stop your termination if you haven't attempted the test!!

I am not worried about it, i just can't understand the anal attitude to the whole thing. Like i said previously, if necessary i just turn up at the gym and cross the start line and i have attempted it.
I think HR get upset due to stats and administration though what is point, pass/fail take it/dont take it what does it matter! get a life!

Tell them to stick it up their crimper, what are they going to do?

You do NOT have to do your fitness test in your last 6 months! End of story!

Ah fitness tests. My birthday is the 29th May my discharge date was 26th June. Despite the best efforts of the mirror techs after 22+ this grumpy old git was not coming in off terminal leave just to help the stats. The young lad seemed quite shocked that I said no and strangley nothing he could say or do had the slightest affect on my out date.:PDT_Xtremez_30:
