Cyberspace Communications Specialist

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
I take it Dii Password Reset Technician wasn't Gucci enough? :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Another trendy name that bears little relation to what most of the trade do. By virtue that most our our secure systems are not in cyberspace.

In about 4 years there will be another load of pvr's due to new SAC's being lied to about the trade again!

That will be about time for another jazzy rebrand, and the cycle continues.

Are they forgetting that the none of the new lads are going to be in the pension trap so how are they going to keep them after a few years.

'Cyberspace Communications Specialist'... sounds like it will look awesome on your post-RAF CV - until they realise that means OIC fibre-optic cable storage / laptop battery maintenance...

so does anyone in your TG actually specialise in cyberspace communications?

cyberspace is just a fancy word that encoorporates a lot of roles and doesn’t mean anything specialist. The job skills that are actually sought after are cyber security, which is why they have not included that in the name so it is technically not selling a bum trade.
A handful of the tradegroup actually work in cyber security which people are going to confused with because they think cyber automatically means that with new programmes like robot and constant references on the news.
In other words jack of all trades and master of Fook all!

I'd be interested to see how many TG4 actually work in what the public understand as "cyber" roles in comparison with RAFP.

Is this the one on Manning where they are offering up to Cpl to re muster?

I asked about this as some of my lads/lasses were interested, I was told that it is trade training, day 1 week 1 and if you were applying as a Cpl, you would be demoted to SAC!

I genuinely did not know a demotion on re muster grounds was possible. Who the feck would go for that?

When I was in this role, we had 6 military pers at a base in Beds, 591SU had approx 8 pers and that was it for the TG3 / 4 actually doing cyber security work i.e. Vulnerability Assessment / Penetration testing of systems & networks. Best job I had in the mob.

I think because it's still pretty niche, as is the status quo with the military, we are behind the curve and catching up! The open source research piece is going to be one to watch for the future... But again will all be COTS kit and contracts etc

As Snowdrops, your lads and lasses will in the main be of Acting Rank? So an SAC who just happens to wear 2 Chevrons to ease the appliance of authority. If they were Substantive and still faced demotion on remustering then I would give it a wide berth.

When i spoke to manning, i never mentioned my trade - he was just going through the process of application etc with me and mentioned that any Cpls applying would be demoted.

It didn't sound right at the time, as surely there are pay, pension etc implications - but gen, that was what was said.
