Sounds like an absolutely pump idea then for any Cpl to go for. There was an RAFP on my JMLC years back who was going into the whole Cyberspace world, the picture they painted sounded like they have a great number of options within that diversification both in and out the mob.

A Cyber Q:

Rumour has it that the 2015 PVR tally has already been surpassed... If so, the powers that be will be hoping that this name change gets new blood through the doors..!

Cap service at 22 years **** bust with 2 year drafts. Everyone has to return at some point to Cosford for a turn of the wheel as an instructor.

I wonder how this will pan out long term with West Country civillian cyber type geek people getting a new set up etc thats role will be to protect the forces.......

Could see it going civvie/separate force entirely with little/no TG4 involvement (pretty much as per now). Please note I am talking about the guys doing Pen Testing and the like.

Alternatively how about setting it up as a DE SNCO stream? Recruit from the ranks and civvie street as per WSOp, off for your Sgt course then a year learning the cyber element in some kind of intensive course?

Change in role title has probably sounded the death knell for TG4. Pongos have been trying to make a land-grab of Cyber for a while now, and the MODs trying to sit it under a single TLB. If that happens and the Pongos get it, then consider yourselves remustered. The other option is that the Gloucester Donut Boys take ownership of it, which will probably see it handed down to JSSO, and by default, Pongo Command; or it will get handed to the lads in Corsham; either way, the RAF will lose control of it any any associated assets.

The single services are setting up their own stuff, but with all the new contracts in place for NSoIT and connectivity. Watch this space for it all to go out to contract, at the nice shiney place in the west country. Pongo's will never get it they still see cyber as a niche part, and the fact their guys get all trained up and then pop smoke when they get told back to digging trenches and putting up tents after their 3 year tours!

You should check out the Pongo's most recent cyber adventure - a whole new Cyber HQ! Trouble is they've got loads of Star ranks and Cols in to run the place, but nobody with any qualifications in cyberwarfare and no workforce to do any jobs, just high ranking officers. Muppets!

sounds like a load of zobs jumping on the cyber bandwagon in an attempt to set them selves up when the leave the army.

Last thing I saw them do was late last year, and they made a right mess, required the guys from the west country place to sort their kit out. Oh and give them the right kit to do the job. And go and set it up.

I think you are getting the wrong idea of cyber. Cyber is just a name for ICT but in this decade google the word. They have cleverly named the terade now everyone thinks it is cyber security which is much more specialist and a different role altogether that pretty much only the lads in corsham or gloucester deal with

So in short everyone cyber communications it just IT communications!

So they have lied in the trade title then to trick people into joining it.........

They haven't lied with the cyber communications as it is just a broad term for everything computer and network based. However they have lied with the specialist term there are hardly any specialist positions left they are all contracted out to other agencies

so they've lied then.

so they've lied then.

Pretty much they are trying to save their arses as everyone is PVRing but to be honest I do not think it is going to be enough to make a dent with manning levels. Recruitment is going to be awful especially when even electricians are earning 30k+
