Yep Int An it is :D Just did the bleep test today, only got 7... which sucks as I need 9.10 minimum!! hmm...

High Intensity Interval Training is your friend, embrace it.

I need 7 and am currently getting 6, just need a little extra boost which will hopefully come from one of the two trainers that I have now (I broke the first one). Will I see you on 14/12 at Halton?

Cheers, will attempt this today... any good suggestions about a plan of action? i.e. one min VO2 max 1 min rest?
My PRTC is on the 14th (start date) so finishes the 16th.. so not sure?

Guys,

No doubt you've seen it, but take heed of this post...

With effect from today, 30 Nov 11 the Pre Recruit Training Course Fitness Test is now 100% of the RAF Fitness Test. That means you will be expected to pass the RAF Fitness Test in it entirety on PRTC. If you do not, you will not be continuing with application for the Royal Air Force. You have been warned, so starting getting some miles in and work on sit ups and press ups. A bit of effort and determination now, could give you a possible 30-40 year career.

Thanks MattBombHead, I have seen that one and am prepared for it.

I hit level 7 last night, so I'm pleased with myself, got about 10 days to hammer in a bit more fitness. My trainer tells me its doable. :PDT_Xtremez_30:

03oldreyd, thats the same PRTC as me, so I'll probably see you down there. The MSFT is hard for a lot of people because it is using a different energy system to just long distance running, due to the speed up, slow down, stop, turn, speed up, slow down nature of it.

You can get better at it, just by practicing it as part of your workout routine. As far as HIIT goes, google it, there are lots of programmes you can follow online.

The following got me through the PRTC very recently:

The beep test on here: http://www.raf.mod.uk/careers/applicationzone/rafregt_fitnessfeature.cfm

and measuring out 20 metres, in a couple of places (backgarden, front footpath and local park!)

Plus learn the beeps and how far apart they are, so that it's second nature in your head! A lot of people were running too fast for the beeps and were stood on the line for a couple of seconds, which breaks up the flow when you are running.

Hope this helps and good luck!

A lot of the fitness test is about positive mental attitude. I always went with the 'I can't do this' mentality and guess what? I would fail it. Once I had the brain sorted the pain was gone that held me back.

Did one fitness test at a secret base in Hampshire that didn't have helicopters. The gym was just long enough and the pti put the tape on and went back to his office. As long as I went past the door between beeps he was happy.

Sorry for the delay, but I passed :D I'm now off to RTS in feb! The bleep test was a lot easier... other people running with you does help a lot.

Thanks for all the advice, I appreciate it :)

Pace yourself, dont start too fast, get to the line just in time and aim to stop about 1 metre before the line and reach out as you turn, you will save hundreds of metres during the test.
