They are far more interested in items such as helmets and body armour and not just for the reason of walting. What would a serviceman who was not switched on do if they saw a helmet sitting on the ground do? Happened all the time in NI, oh look a Maglite, I could use that.......... Boom.

There is a reason it's all available on the internet, greedy *******s looking to turn a profit but not caring where it will end up, that does not make it right.

I just wanted to make that point you can all get back to your scuffer bashing now :-)

They got a bit uppity about something called an SLR which (apparently) I should have handed back in 82', and which had never been struck off in the subsequent 14 years. Tried to bill me for (I think) around £270 for it.

Allegedly, we were supposed to collect them along with the rest of the bags at BZN....who knew?

begs the question where all these 'surplus' stores get it from then, being as they seem to have an unlimited supply of most items, that can't be due to a few ex squaddies selling their old kit.

I don't buy the whole security risk excuse, 'cos people will use whatever they can get their hands on, so stopping a few ex soldiers selling their tin hats on Ebay isn't going to help a great deal is it.

A local store near me had RAF rucksacks brand new in the wrapper for £35! (The sh1t blue ones), and they didn't just have a couple.

Are the MOD supplying these stores or is something more sinister happening?

I've got an SLR I found at the terminal at Brize in my garage, for the impending zombie apocalypse.

If it came from BZN then it'll be fookin useless, they are a right bunch of tards in that armoury....

I think a lot of times it's the former, the quantities on there are way beyond someone selling odd bits and bobs for a few quid or even theft, looking at some of the shops on ebay and the amount of stuff they'd be nothing left in stores!

I agree, so in which case why put effort into persecuting a few for an unspecified national security risk if the MOD is supplying surplus outlets directly?

I'm only playing devils advocate here by the way, theft is theft, and a stacker selling 500 items from stores need's fcuking with a rag mans trumpet.

Obviously I'm excluding the really gucci kit such as the latest body armour etc, but that was included in my original point.

Is any of this being based on fact? I am seeing lots of "if" and "I think"

Have a look online and see what you think. Large quantities available online, which seems more likely; sold through the MoD or stolen on a huge scale?

Why won't clothing stores take back the mountain of deserts I have FFS!!! Its not like we are going to go back to wearing them! I've got enough RAF crap kicking around as it is.

I worked in a *C at a secret oxfordshire APOE 'til January so To answer the question in hand. It is a directive from the Airships. Recent Ops have shown we need to move at a moments notice and PCS (MTP with LOTS of Velcro) is currently not standard issue to the RAF. With this in mind they can send people on a no day notice to move holiday destination knowing they don't need to wait to kit them out as most people have CS95 deserts, or are more easily obtainable. You need to keep hold of these untill all the RAF are issued PCS as standard or leaving. Annoying I know seens as PCS roll out is delayed again due to shortages etc, (the usual contractor stuff with clothing).
As for contractors selling on used clothing I am informed that a SERvice COmpany that deals with ours sell it to make paper!!!
When you leave all we really require is MK6/7, S10, No1s (unless reserve) Body armour webbing and some other bits and pieces. Basically bits of every colour uniform and box of biccies helps. (Please Note: other Units may vary)
Hope that helps.

Sorry about spelling I'm a Stacker for a reason!!!:PDT_Xtremez_31:

You would also know then, that *C at that secret Oxon AT base routinely send unopened items of clothing (Blues, CS95,Deserts,Boots) to the SERvice COmpany scrap compound (I know because I've actually seen it). You'd also know that when SERvice COmpany staff mentioned this to the contract monitoring team (serving members of the RAF), the answer from *C was that it wasn't needed and then asked for a list of exactly what was there. You'd also know that SERvice Company simply bag it up and dispose of it in line with MOD instructions, they do not sell it off to make paper. Whilst I'm not defending that shower of sh!te (the management anyway), the laziness of *C contributes to the situation.
I also left the RAF at that camp, and when I asked what was needed back, they told me to bring everything I had. I did that, and they didn't even check it, just threw the kitbags into the wire cages at the back..and I know I had unopened shirts etc in there.

Sorry about the correct spelling and grammar....I was a Stacker!!

The thing I don't get is; if you've got PCS you are ready for a notice move, so why make these people keep deserts? They know if you've got it or not because it'll be on your clothing book. Or am I missing something?:PDT_Xtremez_42:

I agree with you but for some reason we need to keep hold of em. When I was in *C I just took em off people who didn't want em.
