It depends if there's a demand for it.

Supply and Demand..........get it???

Dhoh!

Its either stackers or MT door slammers that will be gone in 10 years.

One will be amalgamated with the other!! You heard it here first.:PDT_Xtremez_15:

They seem to be putting cash into Supply IT

UMIs was upgraded to MJDI MIS on the 22 Dec 2006 and MJDI POC is on its way for USAS users followed by MJDI full for all three armed services Perhaps we do have a future ?

All the IT money is all well and good but USAS can be operated by civillians its not rocket science.Where is the money that would encourage young SAC's to stay in instead of PVR, there are no perks in this job anymore, money been spent on wrong things eg new no1's,flying a tornado f3 from leuchars to belguim to deliver haggis.Oh yes its true, wheres the number for the News Of The World?:PDT_Xtremez_28:

I'll be surprised if we still have an air force in 10 years.

Don't forget, the RAF was considered to be a 100-year experiment when formed.

Think about it - transport, ISTAR, ground attack aircraft and helos to the army, SAR, maritime, fighters and other helos to the navy. Makes sense. Ask the Canadians...

Thank dog I'll be gone...

Supply has a future. The IT investment is something that, funnily enough, will bring major savings across all 3 services - I'll explain if you want me to.

The base system underneath will be a version of USAS to start with. That means the RAF Stacker will be at the front of this - and the fact we get it first reinforces that. I can see a big involvement in us taking the lead in a lot of it - training etc.

There is also investment in MT and Movements systems - and we are starting to see them talking to each other. Supply will remain a key Trade, along with MT & Movs - and I'm not holding my breath on any TG amalgamations in the near future.

IMHO, unless our lords and masters sit down with MT and Movs and amalgamate into one super trade (with specialisations as you go up the ranks) we will die out. The Army are already following our lead, no Supp Specs/Cons now, they are all one trade. MJDI is being taken on by both of our sister organisations and all the spares are going to Army depots. I'm out in 2015, I can see the RAF disbanding in 2018 and the assets going to the Army and Navy, I don't like it but unless we prove our worth without the help of the Spams, we are well and truly Ferked!

I can certainly see the Movs, Stackers and Door Slammers combining into a single trade, and to be fair, the logic of a Joint (Army led) Logs trade is surely a possibility. As for the Stores trade itself, whilst Civvies can do many of the UK aspects of Supply I would have thought the MSF/TSW side of things would have to stay Military

I see your future as a reduced arm/branch updating and maintaining computer records for NSN and Pt no's. With the increase of IT at the shop floor, technicians will demand their own spares. There will be no need to hasten said spares as Bae and Boeing etc will be carrying out most of the servicing and suplying the parts too. Don't cry though, if the Air Force exists in 10 years time most of it's members will be master race. They'll probably carry out their own AF and BF too unless civvy contractors work first line.

I think you are forgetting the 'other' role service suppliers have to undertake, namely putting up tents etc everytime the station has an officers mess do/families day/other ****e. Civvy storemen would be running to their unions if you asked them to do something that involved them moving more than 4ft from their 3 bar heater and grubby USAS terminal.

THS, some of them are like that, I'll agree, but some of us actually do enjoy being helpful and assisting people to get the job done.....and after 18 years of having to do all the putting up tents sh1te, I'm glad I don't have to anymore....and it's also good being able to tell some jumped up snco or officer that if they continue to talk to me that fcukin way, they'll get fcukin nowhere quite fcukin quickly.:PDT_Xtremez_31:

I thought putting up tents for local fetes was the role of MSF's (or is that just in Hampshire !!)

As previously stated on this thread, the IT investment in the trade encourages our existence for the forseeable future. MJDI and MMiT are certainly going to streamline the trade and make it more effective, but I cannot see teckies demanding their own spares for rects. They haven't got the time, or certainly the inclination to come to the 'gateway' for conversion training!

GRS - morale
RIR - ****e jobs

Oooh nice piccy in your sig Dantura!
