There may be a few happy TG1 people today. FRI on the RAF intranet.

Will it be enough? Bearing in mind that it will be taxed/NI.

FRI - Good to see where they are hurting, and in which rank. That will well and truly halt promotion...

I think ill just serve my time to 22, and leave..

I'm eligible.

It took me all of 3 seconds on hearing to work out that it wasn't worth it, telling my Wobbly that I'm not interested.

15K for 3 extra years? So 12k after tax making it worth about 4K extra a year. Anybody with their head screwed on right can easily make double that back as a Civvy.

I wonder if, when no-one takes it they expand the offer to hit more people and with a better offer?

1 SAC(T) here misses out by less than a month and who is only serving till 21yrs as the RAF have refused to sign him on to allow him a pension.......

Some people would question if that is the type of person we should be retaining? Not promoted yet?

Probably not the kind you want, but probably the person you need, but not enough to splurge on.

So what would you stay for, extra grand a year on your pension, bigger lump sum or more free socks?

We have frequent chats at work about this and as long as the package is fair and people are treated equally, within reason, the vast majority of your leavers don’t leave because of the package.

So is it if your signed on for 22 and you take it you have to do 25 in total? Or is it take the money and not leave for 3 years? I’m on leave so can’t read it.

My understanding was that they are trying to stem a tide of PVRs from TG1? Now don't get me wrong I'm sure there are a few good people who have slipped through the net but for the most part is this not going to just retain the lazy, incompetent coasters. Then stagnate promotion for the rest of the trade causing people to leave in droves?
And who is going to sign on for 20/30 anymore?
I'm willing to bet that a lot of the people who this targets would have signed on for another 3 years for free. The people it should be targeting is the people who haven't done enough service to be caught in a pension trap. I can see this causing more problems than it solves. Still, 10Ks not bad :PDT_Xtremez_28:

If I hadn't taken promotion I'd have been up for an extra £20K and 3 more years - oh well, just another reason why there's no point staying around. Reduced OOA TRTs for having a QA tick in the box hanging over me and being financially worse off.........

I feel this is more a retain anything to make up the numbers exercise rather than a targeted retention of manpower you want to keep. When i was at Cosford the second time everyone was offered the chance to sign on for 12. Most people i know took it and signed themselves out of 10k and 12 years service anyway. Hows that going to make them feel? Are we going to retain them? Doubt it. I only didnt sign it becauae I was feeling disillusioned with it at the time and this hasn't done anything to make me feel differently. I'll take it, bank it, and when the time is right ill still PVR and pay it back whatever part of it i owe.

This FRI has missed the point too - most people leaving are Sgts at their 22 yr point. To keep Chiefs, you only have to offer them an extra 2 years and those who would be leaving in the next few years on LOS 32 would probably take it, esp if on AFPS 75. Now they'll go to what is effectively LOS 35 (same as FS) but with an extra £20K as opposed to about £2K in wage rise. Wonder what effect this FRI will have on disgruntled FS and Sgts...............

i was offered and took 22 to 25 as a Cpl in Jan this year, been about 10 outside the board for last 4 years, had asked and been told by numerous people at manning, HR and in briefs by egg wearing chaps that this wasn't happening, no money for it. So as i was out in Sep (3 weeks from now) i took it. Should have held on...but then i'd be on terminal so probably wouldn't have found out.

I'm missing out on the FRI by a year. I'd have taken it seeing as I'd REALLY have to do f'all when I left then rather than just part time in Tesco's.

Same here, I miss out on 20k because I signed on for LOS 32 from LOS 30, the announcement in our t-bar was met with silence, it has had the reverse effect from what it was designed for, bearing in mind they are still looking at a engineers pay spine for next year it might be worth waiting on those 7 clicks to freedom.

So if you get awarded a retention bonus then its a good deal
But if you don't, then everyone else who got awarded it are all "lazy, incompetent coasters"

In my own opinion the SJAR promotion system is a lottery. Ive no idea how some got promoted over others? Maybe it's all down to how badly your SJAR is written and if the board had lost interest by the time they picked yours out the pile.

Even if there's an element of truth in your post, I wonder what would make them "lazy, incompetent coasters" in the first place? I've been told by a 1st RO he'd love me to get promoted and promised me it would only take one good year. So I stuck to my side of the bargain and put service before self, worked my but off, gave it my all and for what?... A badly written SJAR and still no promotion or any recognition. While a 1st ROs best mate who has the maturity of a child and is always in the siht, gets a glowing SJAR. So sometimes a lack of promotion isn't always just that persons fault and this is what turns someone from enthusiastic into a " I might as well be a lazy incompetent coaster"

top level arm chief will be on 43,011 that's from the AFPRB report annex

Thanks, i was slightly confused as OR7 went up to OR7-10. Recalculated based upon an income of £43011 (Supp 2, OR7-5).

Bonus of £20000 (Tax and NI payable)

  • Tax = £7332.20
  • NI = £427.83
  • Take Home = £12,239.98

3 Year Retention, Per Year = £4079.99

*Calculations are just calculations, i am a techie and not an accountant therefore check your own maths :PDT_Xtremez_40:. Tax can also be saved by married allowance etc.

Its always annoying when the figure of £10k, £15k and £20k are thrown about, without looking the effect of NI & Tax implications.

I shall remove the other post.

Rgds,
