I took the plunge and phoned the desk to see if there was any movement with TG4 SAC promotions, and for lame excuse of the year I got this reply. Due to us relocating from Innsworth to High Wycombe all SAC promotions have been put on hold until further notice
Well I'm glad its nothing trivial holding it up, at the end of the day its only money...

I don't about excuses etc but that bit in bold is actually true.

It depends. If a few people were promoted before the posts became vacant to minimise disruption while ACOS Manning move then is that right? Well no it's not, but I'm sure no-one would complain.

What I suspect has happened is that the career managers have stopped issuing promotion offers for a couple of weeks while they move house, knowing that there are always people who will waive their 90 days notice of posting if it comes with the carrot of promotion. It's no biggie.
 
Spoke to the desk myself today to find out what is happening with Cpl - Sgt promotions and they have changed the goal posts again, not only have they stated that promotions are on hold until the move to Wycombe but also that the new contact numbers printed on the ACOS manning website for Wycombe are wrong and that they dont know what their new numbers will be so just wait for the signal to turn up (if you are expecting it) what a great open door policy we have! Perhaps worth them getting the website update ASAP, but maybe this is way down on their list of priorities (just like promotions!)

But I'm not bitter!

I first spoke to the board in November and was told to ring back in december, which I did then they told me to ring back in January which I did today. And after the reply I was given I was told to ring back at the back end of March. Is it me or does anyone else see a pattern starting

Why is that your drafter's cock-up? They don't conduct manpower reviews, or LEAN assessments, or even sit on promotion boards. They might have been given the title 'career manager' but when all is said and done their job is to put bums on seats as directed by the Air Secretary, in consultation with trade sponsors and while trying to keep units and individuals happy.

Our guys have been told that there will not be any sac-cpl promotions for the first six months due to PMA hving to relocate people after a couple of swns have closed?

If it makes you feel any better, my position on last year's board would have guaranteed me a promotion offer had I been there a couple of years earlier. 6 months after our board was ratified and only one offer has been made so far that I know about. (2 more of the top 5 are good friends of mine and they haven't had offers yet). The books have to balance.

If you want to blame somebody then blame the government whose paltry increases to the defence budget over the last 10 years when weighed against the exponential increases in equipment costs have seen us cut manpower further than is sensible. Further manpower cuts are not realistic so now we have to look at "empowerment" which basically means paying a Cpl to do a Sgt's job.

I know you're frustrated, many of us are. The chances are that your drafter doesn't know what's happening from one week to the next but when you and your peers phone him he feels that he has to tell you something. If all he can offer is a "holding reply", it is not because he gets a kick out of keeping you hanging. Trust me, he would rather issue the promotion offer and get you off his back for a year or 2.

I blame the c0ck-nosher who knew that TG4 would need to shed hundreds of personnel and didn't give us the option of redundancy a couple of years back.

Now we have far too many people and no promotion.
 
Hello CIS Tech, I agree that it is a ****e state to be in a feel genuinely sorry for the guys tittering on the edge of promotion but correct me if i'm wrong but there was a TG4 road show back in 2003 laying everything out and what was and could happen, so far all of it has come true.
The drafters are relocating, have they given anyone a timescale of how long it will take them to settle in.
 
Yes it`s 5hite at the moment and I`m disgusted. But I remember stuff like this happening before. I think that in a few years so many will have got pi55ed of and left that those who are still in will be on a flyer with regards to promotion.

We had a brief from an Air Marshall before Christmas who said, The projected 40,700 manning for the RAF had already been passed and was expected to level out at 38,000 before climbing again ! I however, think that the rubicon has been crossed and we are now in freefall ! (all trades)

Imagine a section of 5 ... 1 away on Det = 4 ... 1 PVR`d cos of no promotion = 3 ... 1 hits 22 and take the pension and then the post is gapped = 2 ... now we have 2 doing the work of 5 and 1 get posted and his replacement has no Q`s and didn`t want the area ... you do the maths !
