I can't see anything glaringly obvious in JSP752, but can you put a fuel claim in to go check out your new MQ on an assignment? (offical visit i.e. get the keys and check it over before the move in) I'm out the loop on this sort of stuff as I've been living in my own place for a while.Cheers guys.

I thought DHE didnt give you access to the property until the day you take over the property (ie when the removal van is due, the family are sat in the car and its too late to say "no, because its in rag order"!)

IIRC (I can't currently check the JSP), there is no entitlement to travel at public expense to view SFA (though there is for SSFA and SSSA).

I didn't think there was either.

Unless there has been a policy change by DHE (Its almost 7 years since I last dealt with a MQ application), then he is very lucky to be allowed to have a look round it beforehand. The best I could do in 2006 was peer through the windows of the empty property that I subsequently moved into a month or so later!

Why not arrange a Meeting/Familiarisation Visit to your new unit, and pop in on the way there/back....

What this dude says is correct. investigated this myself earlier in the year....

I hate moving into a new quarter for this reason. Last time I rather offended the bitch from DE when I pointed out the state of the house. Her reply was "it's grade 4". I'd rather pay for a better quarter than take the constant earache from the missus over damp, noise, horrendous fuel bills etc. we don't get that option though.

Actually there is a bit more choice now with the self preference e1132, while the estate agent details are not perfect yet, they are getting better but if there are not internal photos its because they are not being taken in occupied houses so by the time they are taken during the void period, it could be the next void period before they are needed again. DIO have a mould action plan in place to sort out damp issues that are down to the design/construction detail or 'life expiry' of a house element - cold bridging, roof replacement etc. Also doing some external wall insulation at St Mawgan, Pirbright and Larkhill amongst others for those concrete build houses, with more planned next year, helps sort out mould and energy efficiency. If its outside the wire it may be on google street view as well. If you want some specific detail on an address PM me.

I'm the opposite. Rocked up to a shoe box that the DE claim to be grade 1.

Lots of power sockets etc and new kitchen no garage or even a garden for the kids though.

Exactly the same houses up the road at another camp are grade 3?

It may have been assessed incorrectly, if so there is a clear route in the JSP to contest it. Gather as much evidence as possible first though, such as the state and grading of other surrounding quarters.

It's blanket grade 1 for all quarters here Sp, they seem to think a new kitchen and carpets enables the charge. I've done a full check from the JSP points system (first day at location) and they meet grading exactly for the band...clever $hits

If it makes the grading criteria, what's the beef? Maybe the criteria needs looking at.

I'm pretty sure that numbers of power points / level of insulation / double - triple glazing / nearby amenities etc all come in to it. I'd say that if you reckon there's a chance at contesting the ruling and you have the will for a fight, go for it.

Frustrating as it may feel, the grading system is as good as we are going to get it without risking a massive slide towards civilian rents. On 4th MQ now and all have been 10-30% of the equivalent local rent. But, do read the JSP and fight the grading assessment if wrong - I have and won. And don't on this forum call DHE staff 'bit*h', not only is it offensive but it loses sympathy for any genuine grievances.

Well Sensible Head you obviously haven't met her, she's a rather unpleasant person with no sympathy because she once had to live in Army SFA which was much worse. Army SFA is worse because they treat it worse. She also made quite serious ommisions when doing my march in such as the fact there were sand bags against the backdoor to prevent flooding. I remembered her warily standing in front of the door and pointing out the garden from the window before smartly jumping in her car and driving off. She knew that I was within my right to refuse the house due to the obvious danger of flooding and couldn't get my signature on the bit of paper fast enough.

She is untrustworthy like a number of her colleagues I have had the misfortune to meet and I will call her any names I like. This is a fairly anonomous internet forum and I haven't even put down what Unit I'm at therefore protecting the site owner (Wobbly) from any comeback and you would have to dig pretty hard to even work out who I'm talking about. I choose to come on here at times and whinge rather than take things further down the official route, I know that I then have only myself to blame when things don't change but I don't really care. My main genuine grievance when it comes to DE staff is that they lie to your face, a lot. With that in mind any official complaint is just going to spiral completely out of control and I don't feel like devoting my time to it.

If it's all right with you I'll continue to come on here and be mildly offensive, as a serving member of the RAF it's hard not to be on a daily basis. To be honest I couldn't really give a f**k if I offended anyone on here with my post, it's the internet, turn the computer off and walk away.

SFA Grading

SFA Grading

If it makes the grading criteria, what's the beef? Maybe the criteria needs looking at.
Grade for Charge is a Unit responsibility, not DIO, so the Unit sets the rent. What is becoming clear is that a large number of Units have under assessed rent or failed to change rents when required, so stand by for possible increases. Example is Lyneham where there has not been a board since flying stopped, but won't be a board until at least Apr 14 as SFA improvement programme just about to start. Don't consider Gr4fC as the default, consider Gr1fC as the default and paying any less against the JSP criteria should be a bonus. The grading system will be changing probably in Apr 15 as part of the NEM; it will enable MOD to more accurately benchmark SFA against private and public dwellings, and early work indicates that they are not all as bad as some perceive.
