So I got my invite for me and Mrs Liar through for the Royal Garden Party. Now Mrs Liar has got her frock and hat, but I have been offered morning coat, lounge suit or uniform. I am currently serving, so what should I wear? I would appreciate any advive from you folk who have been before. Many thanks in advance.

Can't beat being in uniform for an occasion such as that mate plus I hear you won't have to queue as military use another entrance. Do a search on the forums as it had been asked in the past and enjoy it!

I was already out when I went so I took the Morning Suit option, but I'd go for uniform everytime - get your medals on and go for it! It's an occasion for dressing up and being proud of who you are and what you do.

I would Bow every time for a sniff of Pippa's arse. Enjoy your visit to Elizibeth Windsor's house, bloody waste of tax payers money but still a good tourist attraction.

Garden party rules are no head dress and only salute Group Captain and above. Royal protocol is to bow, address as "Your Royal Highness" the first time and then Ma'am after that.

How do you salute anyone with no head dress or do you mean up until the point you take it off?

"Your Majesty", the first time you address her, then
"Ma'am"after that.

Then "Yo! Liz baby!" when you've caned the Pims.

Gongrats, its a cracking posh picnic, been there myself. Jap tourists love it outside too. Just a quick one though, its No1's but ribbons only no medals. Only her Maj is allowed bling!!!!

Well done for getting an invite - I've applied 6 times with no luck. Mrs Obe getting ****ed off with trying now, as am I! And yes, i'm sure it's no medals, just ribbons, but at least you can have the extra Jubilee one on now too! ;-)

Email gone round work here stating all personnel involved in Jubilee events in uniform are by order of MoD to wear medals including QDJ. Othersie you are not allowed to wear it until the 5th of June.

That was a change published in 2012DIN09-010. The other guidance in 2012DIN09-004 remains extant: entitled individuals may wear the ribbon and minature from 7 Feb. Royal Garden Party is without medals (checked the MOD guidance on the intranet) - it is not a Jubilee event; merely a routine event in the Jubilee year.

Didn't see anything in the guidance about only saluting OF5s and above.

Not this year, the garden party is being held as an 'after party' for the muster on the 19th of May. As such medals are to be worn. As for the saluting. I think that's more of an unwritten rule. It was the same when we did RIAT and Cosford Airshows, State Opening of Parliment and other events where senior officers where attending. Saves you wlaking around with your hand permanently attached to your forhead.

As I said, just ribbons, the new Jubilee one which CAN be worn from 7th Feb.

There are other Royal Garden Parties in 2012 apart from the one at Windsor.

Be wary of unwritten rules - they tend to bite you in the bum when someone picks you up for it and they are frequently based on little more that rumour control.

Lt Ruper to SAC Climebear - Why didn't you salute me airman.

SAC Climebear - Because someone told me we don't have to?

Lt Rupert - It says in QRs that you do, so where is your authority that you don't have to follow QRs?

SAC Climebear - ummmm, E-Goat?
