May i ask a question some of you may or may not have noticed that I am dyslexic.

what is people view on Dyslexia

The military have several courses available to support and help dyslexic individuals. Nowt to worry about as long as you let your hierarchy know early on and make use of all the help on offer.

Good luck with it all.

dont worry im currently in and dislexic and it hasnt stopped me, anyway if you have seen some of the rockapes spelling.......

Not a problem depending which trade you are ... But when you reach SNCO i pity the poor guy who's appraisal you write.....

I was a training supervisor for many years and from a training perspective, you will need to furnish evidence (such as an Educational Psychologist's report) of the dyslexia. If you don't already have one then you would likely be referred for a report. The report details any concessions/coping strategies and this will help the instructional staff to help you (you don't have to disclose if you don't wish to). You would be surprised by how many people didn't realise they have a learning issue (don't like the word disorder). Some also tried to cover it up until like most, they tripped up in training. The bottom line is that you have to be able to do the job you wish to train for.

Hope that helps:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Pot calling kettle?

Im neither a Snco or dyslexic. I may make the occasional spoilking mistook but my excuse is I'm writing this on a phone. My honest opinion is that i wouldn't want a Dyslexic person writing my appraisal, or for that matter interpreting technical information in a technical manual and using that information to repair an aircraft.

So what are we to make of your grammar and punctuation, enginesuck? Or are you in denial? My son is a TV producer and director, earning an obscene amount of money in London and currently Sydney, who wasn't diagnosed until he went to university. It certainly hasn't held him back other than being told he wouldn't be able to read the teleprompt quickly enough to succeed as a TV presenter - he's been a radio presenter with no problems. Although naturally an 'arts' person who had to have help to conquer an essay-writing block, he got a C in A Level Maths and a 2-1 in Broadcast Journalism at Leeds with accreditation by the Broadcasting & Journalism Training Council. A dyslexic person can do it, it just takes a little bit longer. Obviously, in a Service context some trades are therefore more suitable than others.

Good luck!

Im writing on an internet forum, I'm not trying to be professional. When i need to i can produce perfectly grammatically correct written work. You asked what people thought about dyslexia- i told you . Job done.

Guys... This is an introduction thread, not a general chat thread.
