Holidays in America

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
I forgot to mention since your going to the states you will need (as far as I know) an International driving permit. You can get these from the main post offices or via the AA website.

oh and watch your speed - got done yesterday and hit for $90. Mr Plod was quite nice when he heard the accent so dropped a few mph from the citation. Could have been $120 ! 65 in a 40 is a no no after all :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Take a tour through Arizona.. Its got the lot, from civilisation like Scottsdale and Phoenix, Tuscon, and the wild side like the Canyon, Flagstaff, Momument Valley, Yuma desert and Tombstone...

I'm with you on that one ILLCC. We did the length of the state from Tucson. A quick trip down to Mexico. Then up to Phoenix, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon.

The previous year we worked our way down the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia.

If the missus has her heart set on San Francisco, why not compromise and do fly drive? The coast between there and La la land is amazing! Plus there is Napa on the door step with all those vineyards to stop off at! Another good place is Joshua Tree (it had snowed when i visited! Fantastic) and you can stop in Palm Springs then too! As for the long flight just sleep durr!

I also did a fly-drive in '03 - started in San Francisco, drove through Lone Pine and Death Valley to Las Vegas, detoured across the Hoover Dam to Monument Valley where a bizarre movie moment took place (had a Ford Mustang convertible, and drove through Monument Valley with "The Magnificent Seven" theme playing on the stereo), then headed to LA and San Diego. Drove from LA to Santa Barbera, then back to San Francisco....2 weeks of fun.

I am not sure if this is still the case, but Universal Studios in LA, and SeaWorld in San Diego still give free admittance to all UK Servicemen and women on production of a valid ID card...anyone know any different?

Go to the gulf coast of Florida, direct flight to Tampa from Gatwick byBA.Pick up a car at Tampa, head south for only 15 miles, and get to Indian shores or Indian rocks. Its not comercialised rent a condo for 4 weeks about $1100 all in,eat out or in both ways far less expensive than UK,walk the beach if thats your thing, you may see the odd person its totally non crowded.Watch pelicans diving for fish and dolphins leaping out of the sea.We have done this for the past 6 years, gradually increasing the lenth of stay(we are retired) we go now for 3 months.Very warm in November/December cools off in Jan,but still in 60s/70s.get in touch by Egoat if you want any info.

I've been to Memphis a couple of times, absolutely loved it! But then I am a big Elvis Presley fan! It wasnt all Elvis though, on Beale Street there is BB Kings restaurant with live music every night, The Peabody Hotel with the famous Peabody duck parade, the Mississippi river cruises and loads of other deep south delights! and the food oh my god!!! absolute heaven (if you hate Elvis Presley however, I wouldnt recommend going!!)

Got to admit that Caz is correct about the PCH, hitched up to San Francisco from L.A. back in the 70's absolutely fantastic, especially after dreary old England.

If you do use a car be careful about speeding, down south they still don't like out of state number plates and don't cut you much slack. Cops have all the toys, speed guns, lasers etc.... and they like to pull off the road and hide.....!!!!

Sea World is done through the herosalute website, print off a form to take with you. Universal needs to be sorted through an ITT like the one at Nellis. Vsaves quite a bit of money.

I'm going back to Vegas at the end of year for a break with some mates (unfortunatly minus Mr GBs credit card),Its def worth a visit for all the glittery bits, and all the shows etc.... lots of fab excursions Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon bit of a minus can be very bloody hot , heat knocks you out you big time after getting of the plane, I resembled a tomatoe for the duration of my stay :)

Don't go if you have an issue with gambling lol....

Hey GB - when you go, you should PM SirSaltyHelmet and get a goat meet out there. I'm sure he'd love to catch up on all the UK gossip!

Any other goaters in Vegas besides SSH and GB what a cool goat meet SB send us photos of you and SSH that would be cool

lol am sure SSH would not appreciate being dragged round Vegas by some lunatic women, am hoping to go Aug or Sep depends when mate can get time off work.:PDT_Xtremez_19:

San Fransisco

San Fransisco

We stayed in The Clift Hotel, San Fransisco for 5 days last year (spent 3 weeks touring California). This is a stunning hotel on the edge of Union Square.
San Fransisco is an awesome place and I think everyone should experience it at least once in their lives. I would certainly recommend it and hotel without question!
