There is an element of truth in that, i have found:
I joined up at 17, and went through Supply training, I've been in for four years now, im only 21 and I've picked up the following bits:
Car driving license
Motorbike License (paid for with detatchment money)
Fork lift (Counterbalance, Rough Terrain and telehandler
ADR (dangerous goods carriage)
Im off to Leconfield soon for my CAT C's
There are most likely other things, but i cant remember now
Ive learnt far more in my first real four years of employment then i ever could at some civilian company. Plus ive had experiences that none of my other mates (civvy) even come close to.
Would suggest to you though you do evaluate your choice of trade, and what it can give you for coming out?
