Off Topic We had an OM at ground radio, and on his 3rd day he accidentally pressed the big red button in the watchman cabin! Poor lad, he went bright red but we covered his ass with a bit of the old smoke and mirrors style phone call to ATC!

Back on topic, aren't these shows effectively telling porkies then if you are explaining what they "could do" even though most jobs are being sold to the lowest bidder (in my 5 years at GRMS, CR62 went and ILS was just being replaced!) and now on the wing we had visits from civvie companies bidding for more equipment!

Part of the Territory I afraid, I stated I did some like Kev does about 10 years ago, and most of the stuff we covered on the display is still in service (the GRMS's have only lost 2 and a bit pieces of kit (PC driven Watchman displays didn't exist back then), For the JAF's, ICCS has been replaced and Rapier has gone and of course the fixed Satcom/HF in the UK is now in the hands of the civvies.

I've just had the TG4 brief sent to me, and can now see why this thread was started. At what point were you going to register any of these ideas as a GEMS?

Didn't know the RAF had its own little place on YouTube until it was mentioned in another thread.

It is mostly filled with video diaries by a Gunner. This was sort of the thing I was suggesting, as it wouldn't surprise me if his clips have generated at least some interest from potential recruits.

problem with using youtube is that it might lead people into view other material which might put them off the forces all together esp if it parents watching it

Quite possibly, but if we work on the theory that for every 'x' amount of people are not attracted 'y' will be.

Initially when I started the thread it was with a view to pooling the knowledge of (forgive the pun) IT geeks out there who could use their experience of the virtual world to tap into other potential areas. I don't have the time to learn about them myself, but feel sure someone out there within the Service community has got that nugget of an idea that can help, even if its just just a little. Similarly, I wouldn't be surprised if the goat itself has helped (and in some cases, not).
