dumbsumpy, I thought the HTD max distance claim was 50 miles and of that 9 (which is considered to be the average UK mainland commuting distance) is a personal contribution? In reality the max you will be paid for is 41 miles, or so I thought. have you a ref for the 75 miles?

And don't forget it reduces from 30 miles on wards.

I thought so too, but I had an admin faff after being on a course and they didn't restart my HTD. When I went to see our (suprisingly good) admin staff, they thought to recheck my rate on JPA.

I was watching the screen and the option for 'change mileage' came up. The shineys said that the highest claimable journey had increased (still with your 9 mile personal contribution each way), and who was I to argue at the extra 8 miles I could now claim?!

Sorry, haven't got a ref, but I'm sure if you speak with your HR/Admin folks they can point you in the right direction.

HTD is normally paid for up to 50 miles, you pay the first 9 miles, you then get paid the next 21 miles at the full rate, and then the rate you get paid reduces.

As this is Sunday and I don't have access to the JSPs I cannot give you the exact figure but I think if you claim the max you're about £100 a month down. This is in the JSP and is purely on the basis of affordability, which I think is wrong and goes against the RAF's arguement that claims are compensatory rather than a benefit.
 
I was unaware of that, I thought it was the same rate per mile within the 50 mile allowance. If you do have the time to find the JSP or AP reference, I would appreciate that, I can then check it out. Many thanks.
 
can't see anything about 75 miles in the jsp. 70 miles max under welfare/comp yes. you can claim for a journey further if you can justify it - ie it is quicker.

join airspace then you can look at jsp even on a sunday - blimey!
 
I served at Northolt in the late 90's as MT
I also have used the M25,M40 & A40 since

As stated they are bad roads to get in and out of from about 06:00 onwards and about 15:00 going the other way

It only takes a slight bump and the whole thing seems to fall apart

I'd get a room and go back at weekends with the option of nipping home midweek if you want

I only recently started claiming and I looked into the rules in said JSP. I can confirm that the max is 50 but the milage may be increased up to 70 for compassionate reasons. The milage between 50 and 70 is at a reduced rate. You claim for what the actual milage is, but you only get the maximum 50/70 depending on personal circumstances. You still have to pay the 9m personal contribution as that is what the average civvy travels to work (allegedly)

It's only the full rate for the 28 miles and it's covered here.
