JPA Personal Objectives

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you change your objectives your first RO or next in hierachy has to approve them?

Yes, but it does not necessarily follow that the person above you in the hierarchy is your 1st RO. The Sqn I was on until recently had every engineer directly underneath a shift FS, but he did not do 1st RO on the SACs, JTs, Cpls or Chf Techs.

Does he not know who his 1st ROs are? Or indeed do not the subjects not know? Are all the printers on that Sqn broken - it is not hard to let someone know that objectives have changed for one reason or another.

Or it could mean that objectives that a subject failed to meet were being removed to make them look better than they actually are.

It isn't a case of making people look better than they actually are. In some sections, the work can be so varied that some potential objectives cannot be foreseen. Surely therefore, it makes sense to keep them fluid and come reporting time, have relevant objectives in the SJAR. It is an APPRAISAL after all.

I would find the person that has been promoted the most in the shortest time in your workplace and ask to have a look at theirs. They have probably been writing the right thing for the last few years and have sold themselves to the board the best.

Remember that it is mostly a board of officers that are responsible for reading your appraisals and try to present things in a way that they can recognise. It would seem that variation is the key these days.

Think about how being good in loads of very different jobs will reflect when you are presented to the board as well. After reaching the top of your current job and you feel as if you are treading water a little it may be time for a change. Try a teaching post or something so far removed from your trade that it seems completely alien (and do well) and you'll be pushed up the numbers.

Also remember to comment on any secondary duties on your objectives as this may be the only forum that you have to present the extras that we all do. Secondary duties can be used to show that you have extra capacity to fulfil a position at the next level.

what sort of objectives can be set here. at my work i have heard so many conflicting stories

work related, secondary duties, personal objectives etc.....

is it outlined anywhere of the required content?

I have made a few comments on this thread and I have to admit "I WAS WRONG" The main thing I said wrong was that you set the date you expect to complete the objective. It should be the date you set it!

There were prob more comments I made that were wrong, so please ignore what I have written as I cannot be sure it is correct.

I have promptly beat myself and booked onto a SJAR Workshop.
I suggest you do the same as it will be the only way you will get the right answer.

Hope this helps:PDT_Xtremez_42:

I've just come off the board and I fill my objectives every year. I have included primary and secondary duties in my last couple of SJARs, and updated them on an as-required basis. So the system appears to work..!
