In a somewhat sad twist it's said that Syd turned up at the studio while they were recording it and no one recognised him as he'd but on several stones in wieight and shaved off all his hair and his eyebrows.

Well I'm more than happy to help in this thread if anyones got a musical based question....

I've been playing the guitar for a fair while now, so if the blues scale is getting you down or A minor 11th 2nd inversion (thats the name for all 6 strings open by the way) just sounds pap, gimmie a buzz and I'll try to help out.

Just don't ask me about bands, unless it's Metallica.....

Cheers Mono - much appreciated!!

And Grumpyoldb - thats some talent - mine is over 30yrs old now, and still a great sound - with a few well earned knocks of course!!

Any other accoustic players who perefer all metal strings though - or is it just me that likes blisters on my finger ends???????:PDT_Xtremez_17:

To be honest, I absolutely love the sound of a classical guitar, or Nylon strung acoustic....

Flamenco players, I tip my hat to thee

Question for Grumpy then, how much would one of your hand crafted peices set me back?

(In theoretical terms, as purchasing one would probably be way out of what I have spare!)

Kat, I alway's fit D'addario phosphor bronze string to my acoustics.

My strat is fitted with Ernie Ball slinky's.

Quality choice for the acoustics....

You should try D'addario strings on the lecky guitar. I've found with their plastic wrapper, they corrode sooooo much less than other brands.

(I play 12's on the acoustic, 9's or 10's on me Ibanez can't remember what they're called, but the ones with massive bottom end strings.)

To be honest mate, I stopped trying to make a living out of about 10 years ago. There's a standing joke in the industry, that if you want to make a living out of making guitars, first get a part time job at McDonalds.

My prices used to start at £1500 and went up to £3000.
Take into consideration that there's a months work in it, plus parts, it isn't much of a wage these day's.

I just build for fun these day's, but every now and then, Mrs Grumpy gets sick of falling over them and prompts me sell a couple.

I thought as much... After all, you do pay for quality and if it's one bloke pouring as much time in as needs to make one.

Remember picking up a Dean acoustic, then seeing the price tag. I almost fainted! But the sound quality was f*cking awesome!

I use 12's on the acoustics too, but I'm down to 8's on the start as I do a lot of bending and have removed the whang bar.

he he he, strangley enough.......

Floating point tremlo locked off, tremlo arm thrown away (I hate them, including bloody floyd rose ones!)

8's though.... you sure your sister isn't playing them :PDT_Xtremez_30:

9's and a heavy bottom end is the way forward, and (experience with ernie ball 8's) they don't snap after a month or so.

Mine don't last a month as I change them every two weeks, and I haven't broken one for years. (Just watch me go and break one tonite........LOL!)

How much do you pay for strings in your neck of the woods?

I get mine from here.........
http://www.guitar.co.uk/

£4 per set + postage which is £1.
I order several sets at a time so I only pay the postage once.

I've never used the tremelo on my PRS either

I use slinky's (9's) on the PRS, 12's on my acoustic and anything else I can get my hands on for my Ibanez & sh!tty strat copy. I use that slick string stuff on my strings before and after playing and that seems to keep them in good condition.

Right guys - question from me - just in case anone has any inside knowledge - Ive checked the website, but nothing - dont know if any rumours have been heard elsewhere so thought I would ask-

Anyone know when Y&T are touring the UK next?
I missed out last year I know - and by all accounts they were as amazing as I would expect. Desperate to see them live!!

Anyone know anything???

So much for a 'rockapedia' seems to have turned into a chat about guitars.
Hijaking your own thread and turning it totally off topic is a new one on me!

Guitars WERE mentioned in the opening post. If people want to chat about guitars, we're not going to be anal and tell them they can't.

I'll be having a few beers with him at the weekend, so I'll get him drunk and make him promise to announce some definate dates.

Here's one

Here's one

What is the name of Queen's Bass guitarist. everyone always seem's to be able name all the other members except him. You gotta admit he was the grey man of Queen.

John Deacon

Knew the answer anyway, but a 10 second google search would have easily thrown up the answer.
