well, i have waited for an air test over 3 hours when at TASF because the airtest crew were at a mess dinner!!!! every one worked their feckin balls off to get that jet ready!!!!! we could of gon down the gym for alt least an hour and still have been back

Sounds like bad communications to me!
Did no-one bother to speak to the EngO or Eng Ops about the crew availability??

Basics!!:PDT_Xtremez_40:

Not sure about the rest of the country but at a certain AT base in Wiltshire there are a lot off sections already doing PT 2 or 3 times a week, FSW(Supply), 1AMW (UKMAMS) & MTMF for starters. I might have even missed a few but these seem to take place during the working week either 0800 start so the place of work is on skeleton manning till approx 0930 or 1600-1700 seems to work and people are quite happy doing it in the working day.

I know the flying Sqn's can be different but how about getting exercise bikes/treadmills/rowers on the Sqn's for people who can't leave work (as per 2 Sqn's I have worked on) and the lads doing a bit in work time when it's quiet, seems like we're all having to accept the higher levels and the possibility of twice a year, have also heard a rumour it will be done the same day as CCS instead of getting away early from GDT, you turn up at the gym at 0800 then go to the Rocks afterwards, Green card/Blue card all stamped the same day (possible solution??)

Mmmm - minimum manning till 0930 and from 1600-1700.

Fast jet stations
0830-0930 = Morning prayers and 1st wave launch
1600-1700 = Last wave recovery

Can't see it. Love to see where I work go to minimum manning for those periods during the day................lets just put a big 'Airfield Closed' sign up twice a day........................I just can't see it happening.

Well at ISL this has happened for a few years now. It used to be first thing...gym 0730 then do CCS....but the singlies whined about not being able to get breakfast etc. So now it is at end of the day....1600 to gym (after CCS and fire sect bo11ox).

Crack on..........:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Look at somewhere like Conz: 5 sqns, BBMF and QRA not to mention visiting ac. The sqns could do it individually throughout the week but what about air tragic, ASMT, fire section? The flying programme is just too full, so the only way they can do it is outside working hours.

OK, I can relate to that. So, how do you fit 3 sessions of PT into the normal working week/flying programme? Presumably the aircrew and air tragic would also have to participate, so it can't be impossible.

Original quote from our Wg Cdr was that it was to have a nil effect on the flying programme, and this is from a good guy!

I think the problem is that most people reading the Techie comments interpret them to mean we don't want to go to the Gym, But I'd love to go in works time as I am busy outside work with my family etc.

As an example how many lineys here have been told that things like this WILL happen or that there will be NO flying on the weekends and the first time the flying programme might be affected it's all Change.

It's not that we don't want it it's more like we know it'll get shelved/changed the minute it affects the flying programme. Call me cynical but I've seen it myself too often before.

Give and Take.

If expected to be fitter, we must surely have adequate instruction and guidance (gym time!)

Admit it, we do need to be fitter. But continually upping the FT requirements is no way to do it. A more structured, ground level approach is needed.

I didn't think this was going to turn into a techie vs non-techie bunfight. We have enough of those and they are not usually disguised as something else. If you like we could compare notes on total hours worked over the last 14 years (or however long you have been in, if it's less). I would bet one of your shiny liney pounds that you are way behind the drag curve.

TBJ

You misunderstood my point. The tech/non-tech bunfight was not my objective, my point was to highlight the massive difference between certain sections and how they will actually 'soak up' these 3x50 min pt sessions. (read my post again). If you want a pis$ing contest about time in ....I'll double your 14 years and add 1 for the Queen. The majority of them being on shift (long fukkers!)

We do that here. CCS followed by fit test all in the same day. I can confirm that Lossie has introduced 3 x 50 mins PT sessions during the working week. I was previously at an Army Unit and we had compulsory PT from 07-0800 twice a week. Moaned like feck at first, actually enjoyed it in the end!

You can ? I've heard nothing recently....then again i tried to check emails on the hotpit computer last week and gave up after waiting 30 minutes for the damn thing to log on !!

Oh well......on hotpit again this week so another week I won't know about it :PDT_Xtremez_19:

Fraid so Tashmiester, my mole within Cake Sqn up there tells me so.

A certain (famous) Tonka Sqn has implemented the 'in work time' thing by extending the night shift by an hour, but you spend the first hour in the gym. Sneaky bumdusting b*****ds, oops...:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Does that mean that the dayshift go home an hour earlier ??

Also a 50 min session in the gym gives you 10 minutes to shower/change get over to the HAS site.....it aint gonna work.

Also for (famous) read SH!TE premadonnas.

Just wait till the first time we lose a sortie due to mandatory pt, there will be hell to pay and it's the Flt Cdrs who will take the ****. It all goes down on the end of month stats which end up at Command HQ, who will then say its down to ****e manpower management.

Just something else to 'factor' into the shift roster....happy days!

What the MOD do not understand is that unlike the Army we have extremely important life treatening jobs to do. When the Army are not OOA they train for OOA which keeps them fit. We have less physicaly strenuous tasks to complete and that we are playing with peoples lives at 30,000ft, a tank crashes due to a lostt spanner, no harm done, different story in the air. Fitness by all means but safety forst.

The whole fitness test/ccs b***ox has been brought in at a station near nobody in deepest darkest north wales. Last year it was fitness test at 0645 then ccs (death by powerpoint). Now it is Death by powerpoint followed by fitness test at 1700, chuffing brilliant.

Mandatory PT should be brought in where feasible (ie manpower issues, work commitments) as most of us agree that we could be fitter and unless someone drags us to pt we wont bother doing it as its easier to sit with a pint than slog your guts out till your a gibbering sweaty pile on the floor, But primary duties need to come first and has been said in another thread "Lean means best practise not best cost"

That said it will be brought in and just like the oft it will get binned as unworkable and Flt Cdrs and the Snecs will be blamed because of bad man management. Same S**T different hour, day, week, month, year etc.....

Firstly fella, not all of FSW is doing it, my section isn't, too busy you see. Additionally to say it's working is a little short sighted. It might work from the perspective of the sectio 'doing' the PT, but most definately not the customers perspective. I've lost count of the number of supply queries that haven't been answered because CPL/SAC xxxxx is at the gym at 16:00 and do they come back at 5 do they bollox, so the query has to wait 15 hours till 0800, not exactely ideal is it. Or ring up 1st thing in the morning and be told the only person who can help isn't in until approx 09:30 (read 10:30 return of call, post t-beak), not exactely ideal if it's an urgent enquiry is it?

Edited to add: Not a dig at suppliers in general, just highlighting problems with the idea.
