leaving the raf

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
I think the RAF still treats leavers quite well - having left other companies since!

I left in 1999 and got all I was supposed to have (I think?) soon after I left - but then I found that no-one wants to see it anyway.

It is a far better proof of previous employment to photocopy your ID before you give it back and present that to your prospective employers.

Now waiting for the gasps of horror....

I've got to agree, having been interviewed and having conducted many interviews since the heady days of 1991 and the big step into civvyland, the priority of the employer is what you can do for them, rather than what you did for your previous employer, be that service or civvy.

Don't get me wrong, as you say no employers are at all interested in it at all, but it would've been nice to get it even just as a memento. The reason I wrote all those times was that the HR department wanted my testimonial as a reference, but when I finally got it and handed it to them they looked at it open-mouthed and said, "Is that it??".

My referance was superb - I wrote it :PDT_Xtremez_30:

I left after 24 years - Just drove out of the gate but if I am honest, I was ready to leave and just wanted to get on with being a civvy :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Have to agree with some of the comments, it is a case of what can you do for your new boss not what you did in your old life and you have to hit the ground running

Company I work for now don't need aircraft engineering but if they do I am first in the queue to work on them :PDT_Xtremez_30:
