Right my fella is off somewhere hot and sandy for his 30th and Christmas so I'm taking him off to London for a weekend before he goes. We're booked for a Champagne trip on the London Eye and also to go to Madame Tussauds as he's never been.

So where else do you bunch of goaters recommend going?? To eat? booze? see?? shop??. We're there for 3 days so got plenty of time to fit things in.

Cheers.

You've got plenty of time to fit in a Show - was at Rat Pack Saturday and We Will Rock You earlier in the year!

Get up the London Eye. Well worth the couple of quid ticket. Sightseeing without the bother of walking, leaving loadsa time in the south bank bars

Hi RAF Bird, I agree that We Will Rock You is well worth a look, even though I am definitely not the musical theatre type (I'm married and everything!) I enjoyed every minute. And if you want to see the sights in luxury with a bit of posh nosh try a river cruise here. Took the Mrs last year and I'm still living off the brownie points. ;)

I took the missus to a day and night out in the greatest city on Earth. A must see and do, is a match at Upton Park! Culture and entertainment, East London at its finest! Cow's Hooves for a quid....bargain!

On a serious note. I took Mrs DNR to Rules. A restaurant near Covent Garden. Oldest one in London and the food and drink was blindin'. Can be pricey, but for that special occassion, give it a go.

Forget a evening show down The Strand. Get loads of 1 pound coins and give it large in the Tracadero! The comedy store is a must for a great night out tho'.

If you get the chance to see Cats......... don't bother. Absolute fukcing s****e!

Otherwise, Covent Garden is good for dwinkies and nibbles. Depending on how long you got book a table at The Ivy. You do have to book and it is not that pricey and you can always grab a celebrity tick. Paul McKenna, Elle MacPherson and Lionel Blair were at the table behind me. Strange gathering I know but they were. Oh, and did I mention it is not that pricey? Not for a treat.

All the things mentioned are great but Tussauds can have long cues could be worth adding the planetarium (however you spell it ) next door. Open top bus trip can be good for killing an hour or so and seeing the sights. Leg over at the top of the London eye should give him something smile about whilst away. Some great chinky restaurants just of Leicester square.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Hotel Hesperia (4 star) if you've not already booked a place to stay. Right next door to London Victoria station. The Jacuzzi suites are good! :PDT_Xtremez_19:

Definitey recommend, as others have, seeing a show - doesn't matter which one, they will all blow your socks off!

I can also guarantee that a night spent in ronnie scott's will not disappoint!

If you are stuck for lunch, go to M&S and pick up some food, then drag it up Primrose Hill for the best free view of London (and the inspiration for "Fool on the Hill", which has a rather spooky story attached to it). You can keep on theme by walking back via the photo op at Abbey Road pelican crossing.

If you don't fancy that, a quick trot across Regents Park (bottom of Primrose Hill) and a blast on the boating lake can be a giggle, and if "wine fuelled" - all the better.

The Big Bus company has a hop on off ride around the sights including a trip on the river. I love spending time in the Tower and the big churches St Pauls/Westminster but I'm an history buff so I would. The monument is something different with good views and don't forget the National gallery on Trafalgar Square, the Turner seascapes are fantastic. Night times see the shows and eat steak at a good steak house in Soho.

A quiet and perhaps reflective moment in the RAF church of St Clement Dane ifyou get time.

For starters sit outside this and enjoy free opera and classical music as the act from the big theatres pop in and play samples...sipping Sancerre and soaking up the Covent garden atmos is just sublime...

If its a sunny afternoon then go here as anybody else who is anybody will be standing on the balcony...celebs can be seen here if you're lucky...

This place here is owned by the Earl of Bradford who knows a thing or two about the restaurant business...it normally does deals that include a meal and tickets for a show and its all timed to perfection...

I stumbled across this place by accident and what a little gem of a place it is...its about 10 mins walk from the Ritz and Buck Pal (via Green Park) and from there all the other touristy stuff you may want to see bt within the market its like a village in the city with a few different pubs where everyone drinks outside and lots of eateries...If you're there after dark look up a few levels at the window(s) with a red light in them...good old fashioned London hookers plying their trade unhindered...

Soho is very much worth a shout these days...its much smarter than it used to be with loads of flower baskets and very much a cafe culture...after most places have closed this stays open serving ridicuously expensive expresso's et al to the rich and not very tired yet...I arrived here in a rickshaw very very drunk from God knows where, promptly fell out of Rickshaw to applause and spent a very amusing hour or two winding up the toffs...

Hope this helps...I dedicated 4 years of my life to treading the streets seeking out those illusively good pubs abd bars that otherwise get walked past...Pm me for info on other areas as I could go on all night but I've work to do!
