LS&GC Medal Changes

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
So the IBN was released today stating that all Officers will now be able to earn the LS&GCM and not just those who have commissioned from the ranks. Do the Goaters think that this is a change that should have been made years ago or should it remain a medal for only non-commissioned personnel?

Qualifying criteria was always 15 + 15 for the clasp. Must be a typo if they say a clasp at 25..
Not a typo you now get the clasp at 25 and second at 35. If you got your clasp at 30 then you get the second at 35 to give parity with the new rules for officers whereby their get medal at 15 then clasps at 25 and 35.

Cooheed - sorry to put you right son but the criteria has not always been 15 + !5. For the first 70 years of our glorious history it was 18 + 18. It was the coming of age of the "everything now" generation that saw the reduction in standard to 15 + 15. Doubtless in another 20 years or so it will be 5 + 5!!

Aye well, I stand corrected and shall head to the naughty stool for an hour... :PDT_Xtremez_16: Does that mean folks who left at 25 - 30 can claim a clasp retrospectively? Doesn't affect me as I got mine at 30 and am now well out of it :PDT_Xtremez_19:

When did it drop to 15+10 as I left in 2015 to join the FTRS which point I'd done 28 1/2 years but never got my clasp.

Just read the DIN Other ranks 10 qualification doesn't come into effect until Oct 2016 :( while Officers is back dated to 2014.......

In this modern society is a good or long service medal relevant, if it's your only chest jewelery does it mean as much as an operational medal, is it worthy of its place?

In the Navy you get some arm stripes, this makes more sense to me and reflects the real importance of a medal.

The RN also have their own version of LS&GC.

If the 15+10 is correct, I should have had my clasp last year but I've never had a medal on time, ever. Does anybody know if a clasp is awarded in the same way as the medal ie. tea & biscuits with the Staish? I only ask as none of mine have ever been awarded and I don't fancy a round trip of 500 miles to my parent unit.

You have to apply for the LSGC, even if you've been a good boy.
