MPARS... are they important??

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Renton - your are confusing the OPG and the Prom Rec to an extent - your performance has stayed the same (B+) - it is the subjective opinion of your 1RO that your promotion potential has dropped.

Why not put your concerns in writing to your 1RO - ask for an interview and in that interview ask him to clarify his reasoning of why he thinks you are a yes for 1 rank, rather than a high. Try not to compare your SJAR with others within the section, as you will never get what you want that way. In your interview make sure he is aware of what you have achieved in year and in particular the sort of tasks that demonstrate you are operating above your current rank - it may be a case that he was not aware. Explain your case fully - that is the best you can do in this instance (oh and copy in your Chf Clk/OC PSF).

One thing - you have mentioned that you have done more education, sports and community work - thats great stuff and something your 1RO needs to be fully aware of as it can demonstrate spare capacity - however, the balance is that you also need to be performing in the work environment as well for it to be fully taken into account and utilised as a positive - otherwise it is seen as a distraction and hence a negative.

Sometimes it does pay to have a hard look at yourself. Use the JSP reporting guidelines on the attributes and map your performance/output to the attributes - you may be suprised at what you see.

if you had read the thread earlier you will see that i gave my 1st ro a copy of last years sjar and also a sheet of a4 of all the tings that i have achieved over the past year.

i also had a brief chat with trying to make him aware of how important this next sjar is as i was quite high up on the promo board this year and that with a decent sjar this year should be looking at promotion next year.

the problem is that being an army capt i dont think he fully understands how our promotion works and that it is unlike the army system where you get promoted after completing certain courses but you are promoted on being good at your job and getting an sjar written correctly to show this.

i have done more extra curricular stuff as this was picked up last year.

i can quote on line he has put......" surely this is an sac we need as a cpl now" doesnt that suggest a grade of more than a yes???

The main problem im facing now is that due to a lot of courses for mu ooa , i am away from my unit for the next 5 weeks so wont be able to get to see him??

I think you are looking into the grades too much. If the content of the write up is there, and from what you have quoted in that one line, it does appear it has something, then the overall grade can be overlooked by a grading board.

From what I have heard and recall from when I was picked up, the board generally use the grades as a starting point for putting into A, B and C grade candidates. They then read the write ups and move candidates around as they see fit.

Therefore, if you have only been given a High/Yes, but it has been wrote well, then you should have nothing to worry about.

If you are not happy with it though, use some initiative and make comments in the "suicide" box, make sure what you write is constructive though and has something there for the 2nd RO to comment on.

Having sat on a number of boards I can confirm there was far more interest in the narrative than the scores. Indeed any report scored too highly without narrative backing would most certainly arouse my curiosity.
