does anyone know if loadie is open or closed? also during the oasc three day phase, what are the board looking for, are they looking a true leader so to speak. because thats where i need to better my skills really, and become more confident. Any good tips for the apptitude tests, revision tips?

As I mentioned in my previous post, the trade is shut for the foreseeable future, and definitely until at least Jan 11. Due to the Nimrod being grounded, guys in the EW/Aco training system have been pushed into the Crewman slots, coupled with the numbers going through at the moment, there is no need to recruit any more WSOps.

However, use this time productively. Gen up on maths, leadership, current affairs, PT, etc. They have also started asking about Air Power as well so head down the education centre and bone up on that. Whilst they are not looking for true leaders for the NCA field - not in the same way as they are for Officers - you are going to be a SNCO, so they will expect you to have the ability to lead and manage and have a good degree of confidence. Top tip for aptitude test is the Nintendo DS Brain Trainer. A lot of the tests OASC do are quite similar to some of the tests on that, especially multi-tasking, spatial awareness, etc. Get up to speed on maths, especially vectors, speed distance and time equations, trig, pythagoras as well as basic mental arithmetic like percentages, fractions, multiplication and division.

A good place to start would be to gen up on the WSOp system, there is no 'loadie' or trade specific until you have completed the generic WSOp course when they then stream you.

The DS tip is a good one for the tests at OASC. Get your Education Centre to interview you to as preparation also.

At the moment things don't look great but as has been mentioned use it to your advantage. Go on visits and organise your own trips, this I believe helped me in my interview. There is plenty on this site if you do the relevant searches, good luck :)

Also worth remembering that at OASC if you fail your apptitude tests on the first day then unless you are also applying for something that you have passed tests for then you are going home. So if you are going just airman aircrew you need to pass the apptitude tests to even get to the group bits!

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I am keen to find out whether anyone 'in the know' has any further gen on the numbers of WSOps required, closure of recruiting etc.

Have any of you serving guys got any further with your applications?

Vim/Foghorn, are the NCAIT Courses running as per usual/to schedule?

Not a clue as I don't work there...Hopefully someone will be along to give you a better answer but all I can say is doom and gloom over figures and recruitment seem to be the order of the day these days...:S

Nca 2010

Nca 2010

The NCAITC are running courses as normal with no view to cancelling any. They have however reduced the numbers per course a great deal. It's causing the staff a headache because the course starting this weekend is around 15 (usually well over 20) which means only two flights. If the usual losses occur then probably less than ten will finish the course which means IC roles will be busy for the cadets. Why they don't cancel a course and run courses later in the year with normal numbers is beyond me. The staff have been left confused but not surprised as there seems to be very little in the way of common sense when it comes to these things.

Whilst numbers required are low at the minute and will stay that way for the rest of the year, I will not be surprised if they rise again next year after the defence review.

cheers for the info Mr L, got a couple of months before i go away on hols but hopefully when i get back i should be in the process!
