Dont know how many of you have heard but the pay review for MTDs as to them moving to a higher payband has come in. Cpls and WOs move up to higher pay band.
I have heard that the Cpls got it on account of all the extra duties they have to do on TSW. Any thoughts from any serving or ex wing mongs???

If that is true then I can imagine that there will be some extremely unhappy stackers on the Wing.
If the Cpls got it because of the extra duties on the Wing that would be a travisty.
After all, most of the slammer NCOs on the Wing when I was there were sick-note, war dodging, yellow belly, oxygen thief numptys! Apart from Chopper, he's lovely, SHAMONE!:PDT_Xtremez_14:

Well the pay rise is true, and I have been given some pretty good info from a guy in the pub that now as TSW accounts for at least 5% of the trade it counts towards the pay rise figures.

I heard this rumour too a few weeks ago just as all the other shinies were saying that we'd never get up banded! Now FFS, if the door slammers can go up, and I can just imagine the whinging from you techies, why can't us poor scribes too?

Don't bother answering that question guys, just confirming the MTD rumour & having a go at fellow shiney doubters!!

So how does this work then?

If you are a Cpl on the higher pay band and you get promoted, do you then go to Sgt on lower band?

How does that figure out then? Or am I being a spaz?

Thats exactly how it works, some of the jeffery trades are the same between SGT/CT/FS.

You may go to the lower pay band, but you will still get a 2% pay increase within the scope of the Sgt Lower pay rates. I haven't got the rates to hand but if the top of the (Lower) Sgt pay band doesn't equate to a 2% increase then I belive you get a Specially Determined Rate of Pay (SDRP). The Scuffers have a similar conundrum on promotion from Sgt - FS.

MTD getting higher band pay? What a load of old dogs c0ck. Maybe I should get twice my wage for being able to drive a ferkin 4 tonner and do my actual job then.

What a load of pish.

Not only have the MTDs got the higher band but i have heard in rumour control that there are calls for even more of them on TSW and if it gets the go ahead there will be more slammers than stackers.
Anyone with any new names for TSW please feel free to post them here!

oh my ****in god there is no justice in this world, it beggars belief.

Personally I do not know enough about the justification for cpl mtd's to earn the higher pay band. I'm sure that they do more than just drive, otherwise we would all get it. I'm sure that there must be some perfectly rational reason behind it, and next time I'm driving a 26T fire truck at speed I will spare it some thought:PDT_Xtremez_43:

However I cannot understand what makes a WO MTD so important to need the higher pay band, this totally defies me.

Surely WO's are on a good enough screw as it is, what additional responsibilities have they taken on in the last few years that they didn't have at their last pay review?

it certainly can't be retention because if a WO leaves there is promotion for all ranks right down to AC.

Does anyone know why the WO's got it?

Can only hazard a guess mate. Either:

a. WO MTD's are MTO's as there are no specific specialist MT orficers, (although the Suppliers give it a bash) and have Flt Cdr responsibilities.

b. Their DWR turnround is fairly high for WO's or,

c. The Trade Sponsor who wrote and put the recommendation in is a WO MTD himself.

Take your pick!

Off Topic

It's not the first time there has been a discrepancy with WO ranks - Before Pay 2000 WO RAF Admin were on a higher band than Pers Admin because of their welfare responsibilities!!!!!

B sounds the only plausible one to me, but surely there turn around time isnt any less than the average 8 months for SAC and Cpl fftrs?

I doubt it very much too. I suspect option A has a big part in the decision as the Welfare responsibilities of a WO MT for looking after his tribe of delinquent door slammers must rate quite highly.

So in that case ALL Wo's should be duly recognised. WO FFTR at BZN has 93 service fftrs, its the largest fire station in the UK, across all brigades. I'm sure there are many other WO's in other trades with similar scales of manning, so shouldn't they all be paid for there welfare responsibility?

I agree. The case submitted by the trade sponsor must have been very persuasive; I know the FFtr TS personally and I'm sure he's fighting your corner too but the trade/pay review is only conducted every 5 years or so I believe. Lets face it, Chf Clk's who have, arguably, the greatest welfare responsibilities are still on the lower pay level too. Maybe it was something else but fair play to their TS, I doubt whether he'll have to buy another drink at the trade conference for a very long time!

Yeah our TS is doing a good job, but hopefully he will do better.

As I have said before I'm not into trade bashing, and yes there probably was a very good reason behind it, but I'm afraid I can't work it out. Good luck to them though :)

IMHO, all FS and WO should be on the same pay scales, regardless of trade. Once you hit those ranks you are, basically an adminer. Duties, Bo11ockings, Counseling et al.
