Ok I have sat on my hands long enough can someone please tell me why we have gone a step backwards with the new JSP 886 (yes Nerdy thread but it makes my bl***y blood boil!)
Having just done an OOA in SCAF for the first time since the late 80's (SCAF that is) without the old search button I would have been lost, but no some clever dick decided to stick all the accounting bits in with the old Mat Regs and take out the search button- are they mad!!!!

Is it only me that needs to find out what a TDR value is these days, how to fill in a DPR, how to bill an individual? I doubt it but our wonderful leadership have removed the search button and given us a JSP which is (as far as I can make out) up to Volume 30 now - and only on the Net (truly a pain in the a**e when you sat in MPA with a 35k download!):PDT_Xtremez_42:

I hope it's not only me that finds this frustrating and annoying - we all go away these days on an OOA and have to spend time looking up things we used to know but want to see the latest version or spend time training SAC's and Cpl's who have never done the job and have had little PET and to lose the 'good book' is barmy- what hope do the Commissioned types have who only do 1 or 2 sqn tours and who are then OC Supply/Logs Det and are confronted with this shambles of a rules and regulations!::P:

Thanks for that feel better already but I would be interested in others thoughts.

Surely losing that bit of info will make you Mr Popular. So there's one step fwd lol

Yes Robby, you are a sad bugger, nothing changes. Like you I hadn't worked in SCAF for years before this tour, but irrespective of all the changes to JSPs and IT I have found that very little has actually changed in the intervening years.

Spent a couple of hours last week chasing my tail tring to find write off limits then decided that actually the best course of action was just to ring DL up at Air HQ for the answer - that's what he's there for!

Off TopicTurn the clock back 14 years to POL in ASI, that hasn't changed either, nor, I suspect, has bell-ringing;)

Used to be a nice little table in QRs Appendix 6... or have they been leaned and you now have to rely on graffiti written on the wall of trap one?

The master plan for Army (opps sorry I mean joint Service) logistics.
1. Pretend to accept MJDI.
2. Get rid of JSP 336 Air and Sea leaflets.
3. Combine Sup-spec and Sup-Con ( call them Suppliers!):PDT_Xtremez_43:
4. Spend lots of money on Global (that will get rid of MJDI)
5. Take over all training!
6. Make everyone were green. Army domination inevitable.

7. Don,t give a toss where kit is so the Really Large Core can concentrate on pretending to be infantry 'solidiers'.

Posted on main gate at a top secret Kuwait Joint (Army) logs base.

'All solidiers caught speeding will be fined 100 pounds'. Oh how us crabs laughed not to mention demanding a Court Martial if RSM tried to fine the RAF contingent

Oh yes the JSP 886 is a crock of ****

Do you remember when they first started drugs testing us TSW folk at R850 when the Army first introduced it (the years before the RAF did)?

Conversation with Army drugs testing team chap.

Him - Rank.

Me - SAC.

Him - Err, the system doesn't accept that, I'll put you down as Private.

Me - But I'm not a Private.

Him - Ok, I'll put you down as Lance Corporal.

Me - But I'm not a L/Cpl either.

Him - Well I'll have to put you down as one of those as it won't accept anything else.

Me - And I have to tell you that if any of the RAF personnel who are being tested were found to have taken anything no disciplinary action could be taken as our personal details will be incorrect.

Him - Bit of a barrack room lawyer are you?

Me - Yes.

What a load of bollocks, but such is the fun of working with those who should have tried harder at school.:PDT_Xtremez_25:

I believe Maggie had the same sort of experiance bless her. Great story but sadly reflects how the 'Be the Best Army Bollocks' view the Joint world. Personally I always enjoyed deliberately ignoring some jumped up RSM or Major when being incorrectly addressed as 'Staff Sgt'.
Alas the JSP 886 has been written by a group of Staff Officers whose worthless Uni Degree is in tourism etc etc. Or even worse a re-tread who is a failed Pilot or Infantry Officer with a perfectly balanced chip on both shoulders.
It is a sad fact that RAF Officers on Joint tours drag themselves down to the level of RLC sharing the same view of their 'witless and enlisted wharehouse staff'

Taken out of QRs some time ago apparently, now the limits are set by the Budget Manager.

Now then boys surely you have something more exciting to do than discuss the new JSP. Sticking needles in your eyes for a start. :PDT_Xtremez_30:

In all seriousness I love it. I take it to bed with me every night and when I am struggling to drop off to sleep get it out. One paragraph and I'm out like a light. :PDT_Xtremez_35:

Having seen you at work over the last few days I suggest you take more of an interest in the JSP!!!!:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Quite frankly I find the new JSP indispensible. It still enlightens me every time I read it, you just cannot put it down. I must admit though, that since you cannot get it on disc anymore, my laptop has been left redundant on holiday.

Geeeezuz, that's some power in the hands of a local bureaucrat. The limits at each level (he said pulling up a sandbag) used to be set in Government Accounting regulations which were then repeated in QRs. Any change had to be approved by Parliament (via the Treasury and the NAO). I once had to raise a F34 (involved a certain red coloured aeroplane and property of the Scottish Electricity Generating Board) which went beyond CinC level because of the value (IIRC it was cat D1 (culpable)). How times have changed!!

Let me get this straight....

...you mean someone's gone and replaced the AP830?????

You'll tell me next that the AP3160, that I use every day, has been superceded!

Where will it all end?

So, the budget manager thinks of a figure, divides it by the ambient temperature, then multiplies it by the number on the front of the local bus to arrive at a write off figure!!!!!

Do DL and PW know about this?

Allocation is based on need as advised (and justified) by incumbent, and yes, DL & PW are aware.
