Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Any other HR Cell finding that random backdated food & accom charges have been included in payslips?

So far, I have had 31 people, with amounts ranging from £55 to £820 over the lifespan of JPA - One girl has even had her whole 4 months' worth of field conditions from an OOA reverted to G1 accom and food!

Just when I was beginning to think that this wonderful system was actually beginning to work this happens.

Happy Christmas from JPA everyone!

All our singlies who live-in have been getting their accommodation money back every time they have been on detachment this year. This was not a result of any HR action beyond the normal Move&Track and we were aware that it would come back to bite us at some point.

What we didn't expect is that the problem would be rectified and the money recovered just before Christmas and that no-one at JPAC thought it worth telling us to duck and cover.

Just back from a week long course and for the pleasure of eating in the mess for that week I've been stung the sum of £52.25.

Robbing bunch of barstewards!

Am i missing something here??? I know I left the RAF 9 years ago, BUT, if you are doing a course, how can you be charged for food?? There is not one company in the UK that could do that and get away with it! I think you need to pen a letter to your MP and MEP!

A lot has changed since you handed in your F1250 Tigs. From 1 Jul this year everybody pays for food from day 1 of a course/TDY. It was deemed unfair to livers-in that livers-out were eating for free and is also a consequence of Pay As You Dine.

From 1 Apr 08 there will no longer be any such thing as the abated food charge either.

The least of which is that it's now a 'F90' (even tho us old scrotes still call it a 1250) ;) :D
Tigs, letters have been penned to various people/publications plus cages have been rattled (certainly my AOCs was back in October :) ) but the response is generally 'Ah well, that's the way it is nowadays'. But just to play Devils Advocate for a second or 2... there have been some interesting 'benefits/allowances' brought in over the past few years that off-set the food/accom charges which started in July; 'Get-You-Home-Detached' is a payable daily allowance that eveyone gets paid whilst away from your home base (whilst in the UK). The daily rate depends on how far away from home you are up to a maximum of £9.90 a day if over something like 500 miles (I'm open to correction on those figures). I think you've got to be away for a minimum period but not sure how long that is. And an individual can also claim up to £5 a day 'Incidental Expenses'. Along with 'Duty Travel' (if you take your own car) you can actually make a small fortune... I know I did earlier on this year doing courses at The Cornwall Base and Tossford (I'm up at ISL) :D.

Which means that everyone who is married unaccompanied is shafted for doing something that the MOD wants us to do (namely buying a house instead of living in public accommodation).

Off Topic Mine says F1250 on it.:PDT_Xtremez_19:

Hmmm, some of us have advanced in rank over the past 12 years or so, so thought it best to get a new one.
:PDT_Xtremez_15:

Oh.... and all me hair dropped out too :PDT_Xtremez_42: ... not that the picture is supposed to resemble what we look like anyway :D

Hmm (again), says MOD Form 90 (Revised 04/05) on the back of mine.

Spose I should get me bum in gear, fill in me leaving pack up and go get my F693 too at some point.

DS .. Yes mate. :)

MM.. cheeky fecker, I ain't that old!! :D However, good point, can't see it being too long before it says "UK Combined Service" or something similar! :PDT_Xtremez_09:

Off the topic slightly but mine says F1250 no problem with that but what really worries me is the expiry date under my picture!!

So does this mean that when somebody is experiencing financial difficulties can now turn down a course because they can't afford it?

Almost on topic-ish but could you, as RB asks, in the modern JPA era turn a course down purely on financial grounds?

I'm not sure that you could because GYHD (and IE) would balance out what you would pay in Food and Accom charges. You would probably end up seriously out of pocket if you went on the pish every night but hey that's your choice.
I think the qualifying period for GYHD is 10 working days, not sure. But then IE would off-set the food and accom charges even though that's not what it's for.

IE is only admissible when you have incurred expenditure on a phone call, newspaper or washing.

So if you went on a M-F course and lived in and made one call home, did no washing and didnt buy a newspaper, you should only claim for the one day (ie £5). The guys at my unit who go on courses but return at the weekend do not claim their fivers for those days they are at home.

So if you were as honest as the day is long and only claimed for that one day, you could potentially be out of pocket, even more so when you get charged the full whack from 1 Apr.

I think you'll find that at 15:41hrs yesterday, wobbly abused his MOD powers and edited my post to put words into my mouth ::/:

That is the principle of IE but there is nothing illegal about claiming every day. After all, claims can be aggregated so if you make one 20-minute phone call during the week you can spread that cost out and claim your IE for each day.

Interestingly, the JSP has not yet been updated and still refers to actual incidental expenditure.

My, what an honest bunch they are - and you can be certain of that I take it? But the question is 'Are they still being charged food and accom whilst they are home for the weekend? Can they claim it back?'

The JSP certainly needs updating even if only to include 'Internet Access' under the IE definition; At Cosford the only internet access I could get cost me something like 2 quid for 20 minutes. Hmm, I'm sure the current definition is quite broad brush - isn't there an "etc" following "...phone call, newspaper or washing"?
