MO FOM.

Thanks for your reply. Lets have one thing straight here, that is at no time during my previous post did I make any personal comment or direct attack on any individuals integrity, professionalism etc etc. Nor did I pass comment on them being nerdy/geeky etc. My post reflects what the majority of people are saying in TG9 and in my sphere of Ops that is this qualification is actually not quite relevant and places a sometime unecessary paperwork on overworked understaffed units. If the whole thing was seen to be orientated more to Ops/ATC/Flt Planning areas then fine I would not have a problem with it. Yet another JNCO from my section has been DWRd, she's the NVQ bod, who gets to do the job now - yours truly.
I have no quarrel with the concept of NVQs as long as they are relevant and pertinent.
Oh and please re read the post and refrain from personal attacks - you ejitt !

Slim

Have you seen the new NVQ? It has nothing to do with IT whasoever. The whole thing is based on Avaition, the airfield etc.

If you want a copy of the standards then give me a shout!

OK, playing devils advocate here (and because I was out of the loop for a large proportion of last year)

When was this one brought in?

Was there any literature pushed out around the bazaars about it?

Because to be truthful, the first I've seen of this was when SSH sent me the stuff a little while ago.

If the FOMs and JNCO's are meant to be doing this, then maybe we should all know about it and it should have been more widely publicised. :PDT_Xtremez_35:

Contact magazine? not seen that in ages, TOTEs? what? I haven't seen that either in years!!!

Whats the title of that Led Zepplin song again - Communication Breakdown?

Don't know about NVQ's but I saw a rare class 69 pulling a load of type 6 coaches near Grantham junction yesterday. Then I found out that I had the number anyway.

FOMZ.

Communication Breakdown indeed, on the same album is Dazed and Confused !. Obviously am aware of the fact that the IT element of NVQ has been by and large replaced by this airfield module. But my main major criticism is that NVQ has a hold on this, surely the TTF Standards staff should pursuing a civilian recognised qualification,(there must be something out there, CAA IATA or C&G ) and not left to what is in fact a voluntary study package. The student should leave Shawbury with a qualification akin to what a techy leaves Cosford with, that is a BTEC or thereabouts.
NVQ whilst good if your a chav from a Council estate and aspire to working in Burger King or TK Max, but the Avation Industry - No !, we can do better for our people.- I await incoming replies (before I go to the Gym !)

General Slim, well done for taking the bait......never fails! As for personal attack, I'm hurt that you would think that, that was not a personal attack...I'm saving that until you have been to the gym a few more times.....then it might be a contest! Only joking big fella!
To all concerned:
1. New aviation NVQ (over a year old) - Information published in Contact, PFOM seminar, TMT 1 and 2, SATCO seminar, quartely newsletter to all PFOM's for dissemination. Website on the way.
2. Should not impact whatsover on any staff other than the student undertaking the NVQ as the work is assessed by staff from Shawbury or volunteer assessors in the workplace. No irrelevant paperwork to been seen.
3. It is all aviation based and relevant to ATC, Ops, Sqn's and Flight Planning.
4. The award is provided by EAL. It is written by, and used by, the civilian aviation industry.
5. To achieve a qualification such as an NVQ and others, you need to prove occupational competence, you can't do that in TTF, only in a workplace.

If anyone requires any more information I am sure the good folk in the TG9 Accreditation Centre would be happy to answer your questions or even visit your station to spread the word. Just give them a ring.
I hope the above is useful. Let's remember that we got nothing when we joined and something is better than nothing!
I'm off to race my SAXO round Burger King car park and think about applying for that job in T K MAX.
Peas!

Thanks for that mate, I've seen more trade info in that one post than I have in over a year through the normal channels. As I said before, communication breakdown; just because its been pushed out, it doesn't mean that everyone has seen it.

Couple of points to note.
a. Use this forum for grown up discussions.
b. FOMz points out in the above that this has been pushed out supposedley through the standard channnels of communications, not so, I was at PFOM conference and this was only touched upon , as for Contact mag, well theres another story.
Regards.

As I said earlier GS, if you want the latest standards then I will send them to you. Makes an interesting read. I am sure that FOMz will agree.

Just to let you know the AC/LAC TG1/TG2 guys leaving Cosford have an NVQ Level 2 when they leave. They do not depart with a BTECH.

Thanks very much, you really are an excellent judge of character. I will not have anyone here say yet another bad thing about you again. Must go and love myself a bit more. Call me, love you xxxx

What do you actually learn or get assessed on though?

As some one has left the RAF Ops and now work in civy avaition did I miss out on learning some thing I could now use?
