Official - RAF is Short of Aircraft Technicians

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
What say you Techies? How do you get the numbers you need? Is it still that bad? Have Scribblies stole all your money?

The RAF is missing hundreds of technicians for aircraft maintenance, according to new figures that heighten concern manning shortages now threaten air safety.

One-in-nine RAF aircraft tradesmen posts are empty the new statistics disclose, just weeks after an air safety watchdog warned defence cuts and a dangerous shortage of engineers are increasing the chances of military air accidents.

So rather than inproving pay and conditions / terms of service for current serving personnel (to stop the outflow) and to make 'the offer' more appealing, they're going with the rent-a-crowd option.

Genius.
Argh but they did improve everything, NEM the all powerful retention improver!!!!!!!! Less pension, higher accommodation costs, less pay due to NI increase (granted not NEM), new pay scales cutting overall pay on promotion (if your trade still does promotion!).

Remember, it's not a cost-cutting exercise though. Recruitment and Retention. Deffo NOT about the money. No, no.

Yes sorry I forgot to mention it's not a cost saving exercise nudge nudge wink wink! As long as we say it enough times then people will believe it, a bit like the one they're putting out about all the extra money coming in from the 80% of people who's Quarters have gone up going on improvements to the whole stock, yeah right!

How long before DE/Direct SAC(T) courses start again? Obviously will need a new spin on it, maybe a 4 bladed propeller at the end of the course!!

I've seen correspondence with the words "Technician" and "Junior" in, very recently and a lot of the sighing and the words "We told you so" when they were read.

It is looking grimmer by the day.
How about paying to live in, even though you've had to make the decision to keep your family,(kids in education) 200 miles away.

Are you allowed to elaborate on why the "correspondence" has been raised?
Sent using Tapatalk for Windows.

It would be wrong to at the moment, as a discussion point the very existence of the correspondence reinforces the fact that at least the subject is making it's way to the top of the pile at last.. Possibly too late, but at least the shortage of engineers is being recognised as a subject for serious concern.

So the JT's that are currently holding out to be the last JT might not actually be the last JT! They'll be grumpier than ever!

That correspondance has also been briefed by a high ranking officer at our place.

Were you aware that techies only just scraped into supplement 3? Our trade sponsor needs stringing up for that.

I did see some figures on a chart for the gradings. There wasn't much difference between mechs and armourers. I dread to think what would happen if we were on supp 2. We work a lot with workshops in my job, on the day it was announced we went to collect stuff, it was literally thrown at us followed by grunting. They were quite pleased I think!
