Paramedics no more?

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
I heard it from an ex navy medic (he came out of the navy 6 weeks ago) and he said they are going to trail it.

Maybe the medics are going to be getting it but not the SAR crews they do a course which is the same as an ambulance technician but not accredited in any way. They are not going to be getting paramedic courses as like I say they won't allow them long enough drafts to the SAR sqns.

How come the dopes on ropes wear the Paramedics badge then? As seen on Lossie crews when featured on Highland Emergency.

Hey, im currently waiting for medic trade to open which ive been told is before the end of the year. I applied for gunner but was graded CP4 colour blind and so failed medical, luckily i scored high on my AST's the only choice left open to me which i fancied was the RAF medic, one of the main reasons i went for this rather then going for the ARMY cmt was the prospect of paramedic training. I know that id be years off that anyway so any current cuts in numbers (or totally) in the paramedic training wouldnt effect me as such. However for the more experienced in service people here would you say this is just another swings and roundabouts style thing where once the trouble of the cuts have passed in a few years time that this sort of training would start again?

Dave Ex Fairy

Us RAF dopes are HPC registered Paramedics. When we start flying on a SAR flight we are technicians and after 6 months or so begin paramedic training which takes about 12 months to complete including all our hospital placements.

SAR is not a respite tour for us but a full time career thing (until it all goes civvy!)

The latest news is that the RAF want to train 10 RAF Medics a year for them to attain the Q - State Registered Paramedic. However the RAF Medical Services are being looked at quite hard during SDSR so we'll see what happens. The bad news is that there is now a possibility of the Army being trained in the aeromed role and I have heard that HQ Land want the Army to become the lead Service for Primary Healthcare. If that happens my finger's on the JPA kill switch!

It sounds good about 10 RAF medics a year trained but not so good about the Army tho .....

Dont know about the PHC bit especially as the Army RRU's have come under RAF PHC !

That little nugget of information came out during the TG15 WOs meeting with DG a few weeks back. He also stated that he was quietly confident that TG15 would be 'untouched' by redundancies. Think I'll go and book a resettlement course now then before the rush!
