Should all be explained on the DVLA website (they even do it in Druid).

Just had another good look and nothing is mentioned about MOT Certs....It maybe that you have to get a new one ?...hopefully not as mine has just been done this week !

Oh well....will find out one way or another !

Crack on...............:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Oh no......Please, please don't get private plates. It looks as though you are trying to compensate for something, is cheesy and makes you look like a show off. People will be inspired to say things like "look at that tw@t, who does he think he is with his private plates"? Then again that is just my humble opinion on the matter. However, all of the individuals that I have encountered who own them.......I have found.......well......to be a bit..... anal really. Much love.

So now you know why i need private plates !!! Crack on................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

I would suggest TM, that as long as you have the certificate of transfer, stating the old reg that has been been replaced by your new 'anal' :PDT_Xtremez_15:reg, then it should be fine. Show the cert to the Rozzers if you get asked for your docs. At the next MOT, they will record your new 'anal' :PDT_Xtremez_15: reg. That's the way I read it.

That sounds about right mate. I don't remember quite how it worked, but mrs brat didn't have any trouble.... I think the paperwork we had identified the car by both numbers. The guy we bought it off kept the private number for his other car and put her jeep back to it's original number. I would think the DVLA database will link the two numbers anyway. Perhaps one of our civvy rozzers (like tigger) might be able to answer that question for you.

DVLA will tell you exactly what paperwork they need off you, you send it in and they stamp it to prove the new plates - so yes your MoT cert is sent off and they certify that the vehicle reg has been changed. Its just the same as when you brought a car back from Germany - you get the MoT done on the BFG plates and when its passed its all sent off to DVLA, they replace the reg docs and tax disc but stamp and amend the MoT

I have to agree, private plates are a bit cheesy...........but if its what floats your boat, fair enough!

what are you getting?

TO5 5ER??:PDT_Xtremez_28:

Can you fit "stinks of wee-wee" onto one plate?

Of course you can; "gwar boy"!!!!!!!!!

Former 500GP bike racer (Barry Sheene`s era) 7 time world Truck racing champion and now BBC Grandstand comentator Steve Parrish owns the plate PEN 1S ... true

He says he always gets stopped by coppers but once they check and find out it`s real and was just something that slipped thru the DVLA net, they laugh too.

I knew a WRAF once who turned up to work with the number plate "V6 SAM" on her Corsa. We all thought it was quite cool as it was a play on her name, although any credibility she might have had went out of the window when we asked how much they cost. "£12 for the pair from the motor factors in the village" she replied. She'd just gone in and asked them to make some up for her as you didn't need documentary evidence then. Priceless

er goes

er goes

Send everything off and all docs are stamped and amended or reissued with the new plate number

It takes about a month for all the paper work to catch up and the rozzers are OK. Or you can take the docs in to the appropriate tax office and they will do it there and then.

Its easy but remember if you change cars it costs to take the plate with you!

Yes, I have a private plate a birthday pressie from 'erindoors.

Takes some time to get used to.

up to the individual I suppose and no, I'm not jealous but I fail to see the appeal of private plates. They just serve to draw attention to yourself and sadly, these days everyone seems to be against the motorist so anything that draws attention - especially the reg no (because of ANPR cameras everywhere etc) - just seems silly. I'd rather go for some anonymity (and here you can insert comments about PERSEC too)

IMHO, people with private plates might as well get straight to the point and say what they are really trying to tell people and hang £2000 in cash off the front and rear bumper.

private plates = 'Non-U'.

harumpf.

A girl near Llantrisant has the number plate
A1 RUB (Wenglish for good in the sack) I always wondered, she was a looker...... :PDT_Xtremez_15:

How about the American girl (Washington D.C. if memory serves)
She applied for and got 3M TA3, six months later the dept of motor vehicles took it away from her..... look at it in a mirror :PDT_Xtremez_31:
